Golf can be played throughout the year, but December to March generally offers the driest and most reliable conditions. July and August are another good window, although the weather varies by altitude—Bogotá is cooler, while Cartagena remains hot and tropical.
Bogotá and the surrounding area offer the country’s largest selection of established golf clubs. Medellín is ideal for mountain scenery and pleasant temperatures, while Cartagena combines Caribbean golf with beaches, luxury hotels and a beautiful historic city. The Coffee Region is another excellent choice for a scenic multi-course tour.
Expect a varied mix of high-altitude parkland courses around Bogotá, lush mountain layouts near Medellín and the Coffee Region, and tropical coastal golf in Cartagena. Many of Colombia’s finest courses are private clubs, including the Nicklaus-designed Club Karibana beside the Caribbean Sea.
Yes, although choosing the right course is important. We can recommend more enjoyable layouts, suitable tee positions and experienced local caddies, while avoiding the toughest championship courses unless your group wants a serious challenge.
Eight to ten nights works well when combining golf with sightseeing in one or two areas. For a wider tour covering destinations such as Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena or the Coffee Region, we recommend around 12–14 nights so the journey never feels rushed.
There are direct flights between London and Bogotá, followed by convenient domestic connections to Colombia’s main golf destinations. Travellers from Ireland will normally fly with one stop, making it a longer journey but still straightforward with the right itinerary.
A handicap certificate is not always requested, but we recommend bringing one because each club has its own visitor rules. Many leading courses are private and require advance authorisation, identification details and suitable golf clothing, which we will confirm before you travel. British visitors can normally enter Colombia for up to 90 days without a visa but must meet the latest passport and onward-travel requirements.
