Club El Rincón de Cajicá is a prestigious private golf club set on the Sabana de Bogotá, north of Colombia’s capital. Surrounded by mature trees, lakes and distant Andean hills, the course enjoys an impressive high-altitude setting near Cajicá, around 45 minutes from northern Bogotá depending on traffic.
The club dates back to 1957, with its championship course designed by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. The 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches to approximately 7,464 yards from the back tees, although five sets of tees allow golfers to choose a far more manageable playing distance.
El Rincón sits roughly 2,600 metres above sea level, where the thinner air allows golf balls to travel noticeably farther than they would at sea level. That extra distance does not make the course easy, though. Tree-lined fairways, large bunkers and water hazards influencing numerous holes demand accurate positioning and sensible club selection.
The layout is long from the championship tees, but its real challenge comes from the angles created by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Golfers must decide when to challenge hazards for a better approach and when to choose the safer side of the fairway. Water is reported to influence play on 12 holes, while the substantial bunkering can leave demanding recovery shots around the greens.
One of the most memorable holes is the par-three 16th, played across water towards a stone-faced green protected by three bunkers. The hole has become the club’s signature and forms part of a course that has hosted major national and international events, including the 1980 World Cup and tournaments on PGA TOUR Americas.
Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and practice bunker. Golf tuition, rental clubs, caddies, buggies and a pro shop are also available, while the wider country club provides restaurants, a gym, swimming, tennis and other sporting facilities. As El Rincón is a private members’ club, visiting arrangements should be confirmed before travel.

Away from golf, La Candelaria’s colourful colonial streets lead towards Plaza de Bolívar, the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum. A cable-car or funicular journey to Monserrate provides panoramic views across the capital, while neighbourhoods such as Chapinero and Usaquén offer excellent restaurants, cafés and shopping.
