La Sabana Club Campestre
Tocancipá
La Sabana Club Campestre is a private golf and leisure club in Tocancipá, north of Bogotá. Located beside the Bogotá River on the road between Briceño and Zipaquirá, the club offers a peaceful countryside setting with mature trees, lakes and views towards the surrounding Andean hills.
The club’s 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by Mark Mahannah and opened in 1978. Its gently undulating layout follows the natural shape of the land, using valleys, raised sections and numerous lakes to create an attractive but technical round.
Accuracy and course management are more important than simply hitting the ball a long way. Narrower fairways, strategically placed bunkers and water-protected greens reward golfers who choose sensible targets from the tee. The best-known challenge is the ninth hole, where the approach is played towards an island green surrounded by water.
La Sabana sits at approximately 2,600 metres above sea level. The thinner air at this altitude can make well-struck shots travel around 10–12% farther than at sea level, so visiting golfers may need to adjust their usual club selection. Cool temperatures and changing breezes can also affect distance control throughout the round.
Practice facilities include a driving range and short-game areas, while caddies, rental clubs and a golf shop are available. Buggies are not normally provided, making this a course that is generally played on foot with a caddie. Visiting arrangements should be confirmed before travelling because La Sabana operates primarily as a private members’ club.
Away from golf, the wider country club includes a heated semi-Olympic swimming pool, ten clay tennis courts and several dining, social and event spaces. These facilities make La Sabana a good option for golfers travelling with partners or family members who may not wish to play every day.
At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend La Sabana Club Campestre for golfers looking for a scenic and strategic round away from central Bogotá. Its island green, high-altitude playing conditions and peaceful natural surroundings give it a character of its own within Colombia’s strongest golf region.

About The Area
Tocancipá is a peaceful base for a golf holiday on the northern Bogotá Savannah, combining established parkland courses with cool Andean scenery and easy access to several of Cundinamarca’s best-known attractions. El Dorado International Airport is approximately 48 kilometres away by road, although Bogotá traffic can make journey times unpredictable. We recommend arranging private transfers when travelling with golf clubs.
The main local venue is La Sabana Club Campestre, an 18-hole, par-71 course measuring approximately 6,368 yards. Mature trees, narrow playing corridors, bunkers and subtle changes in elevation create a traditional parkland challenge where accuracy and sensible positioning are more valuable than distance alone. The course has hosted the Colombian Open and continues to stage important national amateur and professional events.
Nearby Briceño 18 Campo de Golf provides a longer, more modern alternative. Its 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches beyond 7,200 yards from the back tees, with lakes, woodland and large bunkers shaping the challenge. Several teeing options make it more manageable for mixed-handicap groups, while the dramatic island-style green at the 13th is one of its most memorable features.
Both clubs are primarily member-focused, so guest access, tee times, caddies, handicap documents and equipment hire should be confirmed before travelling.
Away from golf, Parque Jaime Duque is Tocancipá’s standout attraction, combining cultural exhibits, family activities, museums and environmental conservation areas across a large estate. The municipality also offers the Ecoparque Sabana nature reserve, an aerospace museum and the famous Autódromo de Tocancipá.
Tocancipá works particularly well as part of a tailor-made Bogotá golf itinerary, offering contrasting courses, quieter surroundings and plenty to explore between rounds.
