Briceño 18 Golf Club
Sopó
Briceño 18 Golf Club is a welcoming 18-hole course in Sopó, Cundinamarca, north of Bogotá. Surrounded by woodland, lakes and views towards the Andean hills, it offers visiting golfers a peaceful escape from the Colombian capital. Unlike many of Bogotá’s private country clubs, Briceño 18 welcomes public play, making it one of the easiest championship-length courses to include in a Colombia golf holiday.
The par-72 course stretches beyond 7,400 yards from its longest tees, placing it among Colombia’s longest layouts. However, its high-altitude position on the Bogotá savanna helps the ball travel farther through the thinner air. First-time visitors should expect their shots to carry roughly 10–12% farther than at sea level, so club selection often requires a little adjustment.
Briceño 18 has two noticeably different halves. The front nine has a mature parkland character, with established trees, lakes, wildlife and strategically positioned bunkers shaping the holes. It is challenging enough for low-handicap golfers but remains approachable for beginners and improving players when played from the correct tees.
The back nine opened in 2017 and has a more open, links-inspired appearance. Low vegetation, wider playing corridors, rolling ground and large greens create a very different test from the wooded opening holes. Wind can become an important factor here, while the generous-looking fairways still require careful positioning to leave the best angles into the greens.
All 18 holes were renovated by Agustín Pizá and his design team between 2019 and 2020. The work improved drainage, reshaped and repositioned bunkers, opened selected sightlines and introduced new landforms to strengthen the course’s visual and strategic character. The par-three 13th became one of the standout holes, with an island green backed by a large number 13 sculpture.
Practice facilities include one of the largest driving ranges on the Bogotá savanna, together with Pitch & Putt areas, professional coaching and a golf school. The venue also offers equipment, a club-maintenance workshop, refreshments and spaces for golf tournaments, corporate days and private events.
At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend Briceño 18 for golfers who want accessible golf without needing an introduction to a private members’ club. Its combination of championship length, contrasting front and back nines and unusual high-altitude playing conditions makes it a great addition to a Bogotá golf itinerary.

About The Area
Sopó is one of the strongest bases for a golf holiday on the Bogotá Savannah, combining several high-quality courses with cool Andean scenery and peaceful countryside. Located north-east of Bogotá, the municipality feels far removed from the capital’s busiest districts while remaining within reach of its restaurants and attractions. El Dorado International Airport is approximately 47–50 kilometres away by road, although traffic can make transfer times unpredictable. We recommend arranging private transport when travelling with golf clubs.
The leading local venue is Hatogrande Golf & Tennis Country Club. Its main 18-hole, par-72 course provides a scenic high-altitude challenge, supported by a shorter nine-hole, par-30 course for beginners and practice rounds. Water, bunkering and the surrounding hills shape an attractive layout where thoughtful positioning is often more useful than pure distance.
Briceño 18 is another excellent option nearby. The 18-hole, par-72 course can stretch beyond 7,300 yards from its longest tees and is supported by a 400-yard driving range, pitch-and-putt areas, professional coaching and a golf school. It offers one of the more accessible additions to a Bogotá Savannah golf itinerary.
Golfers staying longer can also consider Aposentos Golf Club or La Pradera de Potosí, whose dramatic course features broad fairways, undulating greens, extensive bunkering and 16 artificial lakes. Many clubs around Sopó are membership-based, so guest access, tee times, caddies, handicap documents and equipment hire should be confirmed before travelling.
Away from golf, Pionono Ecological Park is our recommended local excursion. Its walking trails and viewpoints reveal the forests, farmland and mountain landscapes surrounding Sopó. The area is also popular for cycling, birdwatching and traditional food, including warm corn arepas and locally produced dairy treats.
Sopó works particularly well as part of a tailor-made Bogotá golf holiday, offering several contrasting rounds, fresh mountain air and a quieter base outside the capital.
