Club Campestre Guaymaral is a prestigious 36-hole golf and country club on the northern edge of Bogotá. Set across more than one million square metres of green space, the club combines two championship courses with excellent practice facilities and views towards the mountains surrounding the Bogotá savanna.
Golfers can choose between two contrasting 18-hole, par-72 layouts. Course No. 1, often called the Lagos Course, opened in 1991 and was originally designed by Boris Sokoloff before being modernised by Ron Garl. The redesign updated its bunkering, contours and green complexes while keeping the original routing and strong use of the site’s natural water features. It can stretch to approximately 7,076 yards from the longest tees.
Course No. 1 has a traditional parkland appearance, with mature trees framing the fairways and water influencing many holes. The landing areas can appear inviting from the tee, but lakes, bunkers and carefully angled greens reward golfers who choose their targets sensibly. Positioning is particularly important because an approach from the wrong side of the fairway can leave water or sand directly between the ball and the flag.
Course No. 2 was designed by Mark Mahannah and opened in 1999. It is the longer and more open of the two courses, reaching approximately 7,692 yards from the back tees. Its broad, rolling fairways and strong bunkering give it a modern, links-inspired character, although numerous lakes ensure that accurate driving and distance control remain essential.
The club sits at roughly 2,600 metres above sea level, where the thinner air allows well-struck golf shots to travel farther than they would at sea level. That extra distance makes the long scorecards less frightening, but visiting golfers may need a few holes to adjust their club selection. The cool mountain air and changing breeze can also influence how each course plays.
Practice facilities include a large driving range with teeing areas at both ends, dedicated practice areas and a six-hole children’s course. The club also has a professional golf school with seven teaching professionals, making it suitable for tuition, warm-up sessions and junior development.
Away from golf, members and guests can use restaurants, terraces, swimming pools, a gym, tennis and squash courts, bowling facilities and an extensive equestrian centre. As Club Campestre Guaymaral is a private country club, visiting access and tee times should be confirmed before travelling.

These clubs are generally private, so tee times should be arranged in advance through reciprocal agreements, members or an experienced Colombian golf partner.
Bogotá’s altitude adds another interesting dimension to each round, with the thinner air often helping well-struck shots travel farther than expected. We recommend allowing time to adjust before playing and packing layers, waterproofs and sun protection—the city can produce several seasons in one afternoon.
Away from golf, La Candelaria’s colourful colonial streets lead towards Plaza de Bolívar, the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum. A cable-car or funicular journey to Monserrate provides panoramic views across the capital, while neighbourhoods such as Chapinero and Usaquén offer excellent restaurants, cafés and shopping.
