Located on Kiawah Island, around 30 miles southwest of Charleston in South Carolina, Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers an exceptional 90 holes across five championship courses. The headline attraction is The Ocean Course, an 18-hole, par-72 design by Pete and Alice Dye positioned at the eastern end of the island. Depending on their direction and strength, the resort says conditions can create differences of as much as eight clubs from one round to another.

The Ocean Course also has outstanding tournament pedigree. It hosted the dramatic 1991 Ryder Cup, followed by the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships. Major championship golf will return when the course hosts the PGA Championship for a third time in 2031.

Kiawah's other four courses provide plenty of variety. Turtle Point, designed by Jack Nicklaus, features three oceanfront holes alongside strategically positioned lagoons and rewards golfers who carefully plan their way around the course. Its combination of generous fairways and demanding approach shots provides a thoughtful contrast to the exposed challenge of The Ocean Course.

Osprey Point is a Tom Fazio design that makes extensive use of the island's maritime forests, lagoons and salt marshes. Completely renovated under Fazio's direction in 2014, it combines championship-level conditioning with generous playing corridors and remains one of the resort's most popular layouts.

The Gary Player-designed Cougar Point was comprehensively renovated in 2017 and is particularly memorable for its holes alongside the Kiawah River, where sweeping marsh views accompany a mixture of strategic par fours, risk-and-reward par fives and challenging par threes.

Completing the collection is Oak Point, designed by Clyde Johnston. Set beside the Kiawah River and Haulover Creek, it is a shotmaker's course characterised by undulating fairways, challenging greens, mature maritime forest and water hazards where careful positioning is often more valuable than outright power.

All five courses are grassed with Paspalum from tee to green, while the resort's Golf Learning Center offers private instruction, group lessons and player-development programmes.
