Plametto Dunes Golf Club
Hilton Head Island
Located on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, Palmetto Dunes offers an outstanding choice of three championship golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., George Fazio and Arthur Hills. Each layout has its own character, giving visiting golfers 54 holes of varied Lowcountry golf within a single resort and making Palmetto Dunes particularly well suited to a multi-round South Carolina golf holiday.
The Robert Trent Jones Course delivers perhaps the most recognisable Palmetto Dunes experience. Playing to a par of 72, the course incorporates lagoons across more than half of its holes, while shifting coastal winds can significantly alter the challenge from one round to the next. Its signature par-five 10th hole reaches the Atlantic Ocean, where an elevated green provides panoramic views across the beach and sea. It is one of only two oceanfront holes on Hilton Head Island and provides one of the resort's most memorable moments.
The George Fazio Course provides a different and more demanding test. It is Hilton Head Island's only par-70 public course and is characterised by a collection of long par fours rather than an abundance of par fives. The layout begins with a 432-yard par four and concludes with a testing 462-yard 18th, while its modern Diamond Zoysia greens add another dimension to approach and putting play. Despite its reputation as one of the island's tougher public courses, multiple tee options help make it accessible to a broad range of golfers.
Completing the trio is the Arthur Hills Course, an 18-hole, par-72 layout that rewards precision rather than outright distance. The course makes excellent use of Hilton Head's natural Lowcountry landscape, with uneven lies, coastal breezes and a network of lagoons influencing strategy. Water comes into play on 10 holes, while mature vegetation and changing terrain give the course a distinctly different feel from its two neighbours.
Practice facilities are another strength at Palmetto Dunes. The Robert Trent Jones Course features a 14-bay Toptracer driving range, equipped with ball-tracking technology and interactive practice options. A traditional driving range is available at the Arthur Hills Course, while chipping and putting areas can be found at all three courses.
With three contrasting championship layouts, memorable Atlantic scenery and extensive practice facilities, Palmetto Dunes is an excellent choice for a Hilton Head golf holiday. The combination of Robert Trent Jones strategy, George Fazio's demanding par-70 design and Arthur Hills' precision-focused layout gives golfers plenty of variety without needing to leave the resort.
