Alhama Signature Golf is one of the most distinctive championship courses in the Region of Murcia, offering a bold desert-style layout within the Condado de Alhama resort. Surrounded by native grasses, rugged sandy areas and views towards the mountains, it provides a striking contrast between immaculate playing surfaces and Murcia’s naturally dry landscape.

Designed and signed by Jack Nicklaus, who also supervised its development, the 18-hole, par-72 course measures approximately 6,900 metres from the back tees. Its considerable length is matched by five large lakes, 116 individually shaped bunkers, wide fairways, circular teeing areas and fast, heavily contoured greens. Multiple tees allow golfers to select a suitable challenge, but even from the shorter options, good course management is essential.

The generous fairways can look inviting from the tee, although the best route is not always the most obvious one. Large bunker complexes, natural desert areas and water hazards regularly influence club selection, while several greens are narrow, angled or divided by strong slopes. The long par-five fourth follows a lake from tee to green, the eighth presents an entertaining risk-and-reward decision from the tee, and the par-three 11th demands an accurate carry across water. The closing hole provides another demanding finish, with water running along its entire left side and bunkers protecting the landing area and raised green.

Alhama Signature is particularly well suited to confident golfers who enjoy strategic modern designs, although its different teeing positions make it accessible to mixed-handicap groups. The open setting also means wind can influence the round, placing extra importance on distance control and thoughtful shot selection.

After golf, visitors can explore Alhama de Murcia’s medieval castle and archaeological museum, walk through the landscapes of Sierra Espuña or visit the unusual ravines of Gebas. The beaches and sheltered coves around Mazarrón are also within easy reach, providing an excellent place to relax beside the Mediterranean.
