The Westerwood Course is a great option for golfers looking for an accessible Scottish golf break with plenty of character. Strategic bunkers, water hazards and tree-lined sections regularly influence the safest route towards the green, so there are plenty of holes where keeping the ball in position is more useful than simply reaching for the driver.

One of the things we particularly like is how the course moves naturally through its surroundings. Silver birches, fir trees and areas of heather frame the fairways, while the gently changing landscape keeps the round interesting without becoming overly demanding physically. There are enough generous areas to make the course enjoyable for higher-handicap golfers, but misplaced shots can quickly leave you dealing with trees, sand or water.

The standout hole is undoubtedly the 15th, known locally as the Waterfall Hole. This memorable par 3 sits beside an impressive 60-foot rock face, creating one of the most distinctive golf holes in the area. It is a hole that looks fantastic from the tee but still demands full concentration, particularly when the wind starts moving around the surrounding hills.

Across the rest of the course, the variety is what keeps us interested. Some holes encourage an aggressive tee shot, while others reward laying back and leaving yourself the correct angle into the green. It is the type of course where playing it for a second time often feels easier simply because you understand where the trouble is positioned.

Practice facilities include a putting green, while buggies are available subject to course and weather conditions. The Pro Shop is on hand for anything you need before your round.
