The headline course is the Ailsa Course, a four-time host of The Open Championship and the setting for some of the most memorable moments in the tournament's history. The course was extensively redesigned by Martin Ebert before reopening in 2016, bringing more of the coastline into play while preserving the character that made Turnberry famous.

The stretch from the fourth through to the 11th is where the Ailsa really comes alive. Holes hug the shoreline, views open across Turnberry Bay and the iconic lighthouse becomes an increasingly prominent feature. The par-3 ninth, played towards a green beside the lighthouse and the ruins of Turnberry Castle, is one of those holes we think every golfer should experience at least once. Wind direction can completely change the course from one day to the next, so controlling the ball and choosing sensible lines is every bit as important as distance.

Alongside the Ailsa is the King Robert the Bruce Course, redesigned by Martin Ebert as a completely reimagined championship layout. Measuring 7,203 yards from the back tees, this par-72 course has its own collection of dramatic coastal holes, revetted bunkers and risk-and-reward decisions. The eighth climbs high above the sea before the spectacular ninth plays towards a green perched close to the cliff edge. It is a brilliant sister course and absolutely deserves its own round rather than simply being viewed as an alternative to the Ailsa.

There is also the nine-hole Arran Course, ideal for an extra round, some relaxed golf or sharpening your game during a longer stay. Excellent practice facilities and a dedicated golf academy add to the complete golf experience.
