Saint-Malo Golf Club is a fantastic option for golfers looking to combine quality parkland golf with the scenery, history and coastal atmosphere of Brittany. Set within a 100-hectare estate at Le Tronchet, around 30 minutes from Saint-Malo, the club offers 27 holes surrounded by woodland, granite outcrops and Lac de Mirloup. The main attraction is the Surcouf Course, an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring 6,101 metres with a slope rating of 140. Designed by Hubert Chesneau in 1986, the architect behind Le Golf National, the course makes excellent use of the existing landscape, with water, granite, mature trees and strategically positioned bunkers creating a varied and demanding round.

What we particularly like about Surcouf is that it constantly asks you to think. Lac de Mirloup is a major visual feature and water comes into play at several points, while the tree-lined sections reward accuracy from the tee. There are opportunities to be aggressive, but finding the correct part of the fairway often leaves a much easier approach than simply chasing distance.

The course has genuine tournament pedigree too, having hosted the Saint-Malo Golf Open on the Alps Tour since 2016. That competitive history gives you a good idea of the challenge available when the course is set up at its toughest.

Alongside Surcouf is the nine-hole Old Course, a par-36 layout measuring 2,646 metres. Originally part of the first 18-hole course, it provides a more relaxed alternative and works particularly well for an additional nine during your stay. Granite boulders, century-old oaks and views across the lake and Mesnil Forest give it plenty of character of its own.

Practice facilities are another strong point. The club has grass practice areas and technology-equipped bays featuring TrackMan, while professional coaching is available through the Cévaër Green Academy.
