Holstebro Golfklub is a brilliant option for golfers looking to experience some of Denmark’s best woodland and countryside golf. Located in western Jutland, the club is unusual in that its golf is spread across two separate sites and five different courses, giving you everything from championship 18-hole layouts to relaxed nine-hole golf and Pay & Play options.

The headline course is the Skovbanen at Råsted, around 12 km west of Holstebro. Originally designed by Erik Schnack and later redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 2004, this 18-hole layout winds through dense mature woodland, with the trees forming natural corridors between the holes. We particularly like how peaceful it feels out here. Once you are into the round, the forest separates the holes so effectively that you can easily forget there are other golfers on the course.

Accuracy is much more valuable than simply hitting the ball as far as possible. Tree-lined fairways place a premium on positioning from the tee, while the natural movement of the land and strategically placed hazards mean you need to think carefully about angles into the greens. Skovbanen has also staged professional tournament golf, hosting a Challenge Tour event in 2009.

At the club’s second site is the Storåbanen, an 18-hole course designed by Poul Erik Hingebjerg. This layout has a completely different character, running through the rolling landscape of the Storå Valley. The terrain is more open and undulating, with smooth, relatively quick greens that reward confident putting. The greens also accept well-struck approaches, so there are opportunities to attack when you find the fairway.

For golfers wanting a shorter round, Holstebro also offers the nine-hole Parkbanen at Råsted. At 2,549 metres and par 35, it may be shorter than the two championship layouts, but narrow fairways surrounded by woodland make accuracy essential.
There are also two nine-hole Pay & Play options. Engbanen is a par-3 course with large greens and is ideal for beginners or golfers wanting to sharpen their short game, while Frøjkbanen provides another accessible option at the Storådal site.

Practice facilities include driving ranges and short-game areas, while professional tuition and indoor training are also available. Clubhouse dining at both locations makes it easy to turn a day of golf into a relaxed full-day experience.
