Silkeborg Golfklub is one of Denmark’s most enjoyable inland golf experiences, with 27 holes carved through mature pine forest in the heart of Central Jutland. Located just outside Silkeborg in Denmark’s beautiful Lake District, the club combines gently rolling terrain, woodland, lakes and natural elevation changes to create a course that feels peaceful, established and completely connected to its surroundings.

The golf is divided into three nine-hole loops – South, West and East – which can be combined to create different 18-hole rounds. The South and West combination forms the traditional championship course, with the original layout dating back to the late 1960s. The East nine was added later, giving golfers even more variety during a longer visit.

What we particularly like about Silkeborg is that it rewards good golf rather than simply length. Tall pines frame many of the fairways, so accuracy from the tee is important if you want a clear approach into the greens. The rolling terrain creates plenty of changes in elevation and uneven lies, while doglegs, bunkering and occasional water hazards encourage you to think carefully about positioning.

There are opportunities to open the shoulders, but finding the correct side of the fairway is often more useful than chasing another few metres from the tee. Miss too far into the trees and recovery can quickly become the priority. That strategic element gives the course plenty of interest for lower-handicap golfers while still allowing higher handicappers to enjoy the layout from the appropriate tees.

Silkeborg also has a strong connection with Danish golf legend Thomas Bjørn, who grew up playing here and later contributed to the development of several holes. The quality of the course has seen it host major tournament golf, including the European Amateur Team Championship in 2013 and the Made in Denmark European Tour event in 2018.

Practice facilities make Silkeborg a great place to spend more than just your tee time. The club offers a driving range, practice greens, professional tuition, club fitting and an indoor golf centre, giving you plenty of opportunities to work on your game throughout your visit.
