Los Naranjos Golf Club is one of the courses we'd put near the top of the list for a Marbella golf holiday. Set in Nueva Andalucía's Golf Valley, just inland from Puerto Banús, it combines a classic championship layout with the relaxed atmosphere that makes the Costa del Sol such a popular golf destination. We particularly like it for groups who want a proper test of golf without sacrificing an enjoyable day out.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1977, the 18-hole, par-72 course stretches to 6,564 metres from the back tees. Generous fairways give you room from the tee, but thoughtfully placed bunkers, water hazards and large, subtly sloping greens mean good positioning is essential. The front nine brings more changes in elevation, while the flatter back nine is dotted with orange trees, a lovely reminder of the club's name. It's a layout that rewards confident play but rarely lets you switch off.
The club has hosted the Spanish Open and has an impressive tournament heritage, yet the clubhouse atmosphere feels refreshingly sociable. After your round, we'd recommend a leisurely lunch at Hacienda Los Naranjos, whose terrace overlooks the course. A well-stocked pro shop and golf academy add to the experience.
