Islantilla Golf Course
Isla Cristina
Islantilla Golf Course is a scenic 27-hole parkland layout on Spain’s Costa de la Luz, close to the Atlantic coast in the province of Huelva. Opened in 1992 and designed by Enrique Canales and Luis Recasens, the course blends pine-lined fairways, gentle slopes, lakes and coastal views to create a varied round in one of southern Spain’s quieter golf regions.
The course is divided into three loops of nine holes: Blue, Yellow and Green. These can be combined to create three different par-72, 18-hole layouts, giving returning golfers the chance to enjoy a different challenge on each round.
The Blue Course is the most demanding of the three loops and is particularly suited to experienced, lower-handicap golfers. Its lakes and more challenging playing lines place an emphasis on accuracy and course management. The Yellow Course offers an intermediate test, combining gently curving holes, water features and attractive views towards the sea. The more forgiving Green Course was designed with higher-handicap golfers in mind, although its enjoyable layout can be played by golfers of every ability.
Practice facilities are extensive, with a driving range capable of accommodating more than 60 golfers, three practice bunkers, two putting greens and a dedicated pitching area. Golf tuition is available through the on-site academy, while the clubhouse includes a bar and restaurant, terraces overlooking the course, changing rooms, a golf shop and equipment hire. Buggies, electric trolleys, standard trolleys and golf clubs can also be rented.
The course sits beside DoubleTree by Hilton Islantilla Beach Golf Resort, making it particularly convenient for stay-and-play holidays. Its combination of three interchangeable loops, strong practice facilities and easy access to the beaches of the Costa de la Luz makes Islantilla a versatile choice for groups and mixed-ability golf parties.

About The Area
Isla Cristina is a fantastic base for a laid-back golf holiday on Spain’s Costa de la Luz, bringing together quiet beaches, excellent seafood and several varied courses within a short drive. Located on the western edge of Andalucía, close to the Portuguese border, it feels more traditionally Spanish than many purpose-built golf resorts and is especially well suited to couples and groups who enjoy relaxed evenings by the coast.
The nearest golf is found at Islantilla Golf Resort, just a few kilometres away. Its 27 holes are divided into three nine-hole loops, allowing different course combinations across a longer stay. The fairways move through pine trees and gently changing terrain, with layouts suitable for a broad range of handicaps.
Golfers can also play the two courses at Isla Canela. The Old Course is a flat, walkable parkland layout surrounded by marshes, palms and Atlantic breezes, while Isla Canela Links follows the Guadiana River and uses wide fairways, large bunkers, wind and undulating greens to create a more open, links-inspired challenge.
Golf El Rompido is another strong addition to an Isla Cristina golf holiday. Its North and South courses provide 36 contrasting holes in peaceful natural surroundings without residential development enclosing the fairways.
Away from golf, Isla Cristina has around 12 kilometres of sandy coastline, including Playa Central, Punta del Caimán and quieter stretches backed by dunes and pine trees. The surrounding marshes and the mouth of the River Carreras are excellent for walking, birdwatching, boat trips and enjoying the area’s colourful sunsets.
The town’s fishing heritage is central to its character. Its busy fish market receives fresh catches daily, and local restaurants are known for Huelva prawns, tuna, coquinas, grilled fish and choco frito.
Faro Airport is the closest option at roughly 61 kilometres away, while Seville Airport is around 145 kilometres by road. Spring and autumn are our preferred seasons, offering warm weather, quieter beaches and comfortable conditions for playing several rounds.
