Hrubá Borša Golf Club

Hrubá Borša

average rating is 4 out of 5

Hrubá Borša Golf Club is a fantastic choice for golfers looking to add a quality parkland course to a golf holiday around Bratislava. Located near Senec in southern Slovakia, the club forms part of the Green Resort Hrubá Borša and combines an 18-hole championship layout with extensive practice facilities, a nine-hole academy course and a modern clubhouse. With Bratislava less than 40 kilometres away, it is particularly easy to include alongside a city break or wider Slovakian golf itinerary.

Designed by Martin Munka, the main 18-hole, par-72 championship course has been open in its current form since 2014. Much of the layout occupies the relatively flat landscape typical of southern Slovakia, but clever shaping, water, woodland and extensive bunkering ensure there is plenty to think about throughout the round.

What we particularly like about Hrubá Borša is the variety created within what initially appears to be quite open terrain. Eight holes run fully or partially through mature floodplain woodland, giving these sections a much more enclosed feel and placing extra emphasis on accuracy from the tee. Elsewhere, the landscape opens up and water becomes an increasingly important part of the strategy.

Around half of the holes border ponds, meaning course management is essential if you want to keep a good scorecard together. The standout feature comes at the 16th, where an island green provides one of the most memorable shots of the round. Large bright-sand bunkers also feature heavily, with some blending directly into the edges of the lakes to create striking beach-style hazards.

There are also substantial waste bunkers on the 3rd, 4th, 15th and 17th holes, adding another visual and strategic element. The overall result is a course where there is usually room to play, but the correct side of the fairway can make a significant difference to your next shot.
Alongside the championship course is a nine-hole, par-28 Academy Course, measuring 971 metres from the yellow tees. Eight par 3s and one par 4 make it ideal for beginners, short-game practice or an additional round during your stay.
Practice facilities include a covered driving range with 17 illuminated hitting bays, putting green, chipping area and practice bunker. The clubhouse provides changing facilities, equipment hire, a Golf Shop and the GreenTree Restaurant, where the lakeside terrace is a great spot for food and drinks after your round.

About The Area

Hrubá Borša is a small village in western Slovakia, located within easy reach of Bratislava and set among flat countryside and open farmland. It has become a notable spot on the Slovak golf map thanks to its modern resort-style course, offering a relaxed and accessible experience for golfers staying in or around the capital.

The key venue here is Green Resort Hrubá Borša, a well-maintained course known for its open layout and contemporary design. Wide fairways provide plenty of room from the tee, making it playable for a range of abilities, while water hazards and strategically placed bunkers add interest throughout the round. The course is relatively flat, creating an easy walking experience, but the exposed terrain means wind can occasionally influence play. The modern clubhouse and facilities add to its appeal as a convenient and enjoyable golf stop.

For those seeking a more championship-level test, Penati Golf Resort is within driving distance and offers one of the strongest golf experiences in Central Europe.

Golf in Hrubá Borša is best enjoyed between April and October, when temperatures are mild and conditions are at their best.

Off the course, the village offers a peaceful rural atmosphere, while nearby Bratislava provides a contrast of historic charm, dining and cultural attractions. Its location also allows for easy travel into Austria or Hungary, making it a flexible base for a wider European golf itinerary.

For golfers seeking a convenient, modern course near a capital city with a relaxed and playable layout, Hrubá Borša delivers an easy-going and enjoyable Slovak golf experience.
