The Carrick Golf Course at Cameron House

Loch Lomond

average rating is 5 out of 5

The Carrick Golf Course delivers a memorable championship round on the banks of Loch Lomond. Designed by Canadian architect Doug Carrick and opened in 2007, the course crosses the geological boundary between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, giving its two nines noticeably different personalities.

The par-71 layout extends to 7,082 yards from the championship tees, although five teeing options make it suitable for a broad range of abilities. The lower holes occupy relatively open ground beside the loch, where water, wetlands and well-positioned bunkers influence strategy. The higher section climbs through more rugged terrain, introducing elevation changes, sloping fairways and panoramic views towards Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond.

Accuracy is essential throughout, particularly when approaching the well-defended greens. One of the most memorable moments comes at the elevated par-three 14th, where golfers play downhill against a spectacular Highland backdrop. Views from the 10th and 14th are particular highlights, but the scenery should not distract from the course’s extensive bunkering and demanding green complexes.

The Carrick has previously hosted the Ladies Scottish Open, the PGA Cup and EuroPro Tour events, demonstrating its ability to challenge accomplished players. Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping area and putting greens, while professional coaching, buggy hire and a well-stocked golf shop are available.

The course and clubhouse are located approximately two miles north of the main Cameron House hotel. Resort guests can combine their round with five-star accommodation, restaurants, a luxury spa and a wide selection of activities on Loch Lomond. The nine-hole Wee Demon course provides an additional option for beginners, families or golfers looking to sharpen their short game.
