Dundonald Links
Irvine
Dundonald Links is a brilliant choice for a Scotland golf holiday, especially for UK golfers looking for modern links golf, luxury accommodation and easy access to Ayrshire’s famous coastal courses. Set in the heart of Ayrshire’s golf coast, around 24 miles south of Glasgow, it is well placed for a short break or a longer west coast golf itinerary. Royal Troon, Prestwick, Western Gailes and several other standout links courses are all within easy reach.
The course was designed by Kyle Phillips and offers an 18-hole, par-72 modern links experience. Expect firm-running fairways, natural undulations, gorse, deep bunkering, pine-framed sections and views across the Firth of Clyde towards the Isle of Arran. It feels traditional in all the right ways, but with a more contemporary, polished resort finish.
Dundonald has strong tournament pedigree too, having hosted the Scottish Open, multiple Women’s Scottish Opens and Final Qualifying for The Open Championship. That gives the course real credibility for golfers who want a serious test, while kinder tee options make it playable for a wider range of handicaps.
The stay-and-play setup is a major bonus. Luxury lodges and rooms have been designed with golfers in mind, including equipment storage and lodges clustered around practice putting greens. Add in a stylish clubhouse, practice facilities, dining and a whisky lounge, and Dundonald Links becomes more than just one round. It is a proper Ayrshire golf base.
