The Knight's Golf Course at Meldrum House is a superb parkland course in the heart of Aberdeenshire, offering a very different experience from the famous links layouts found along Scotland's north-east coastline. Set within 240 acres of the historic Meldrum Estate near Oldmeldrum, the course combines mature woodland, rolling fairways, water features and immaculate greens with views back towards the historic manor house.

Designed by Graeme Webster and opened in 1998, the 18-hole championship course stretches to just over 7,000 yards from the back tees. Five different tee positions on every hole mean you can choose a distance that suits your game, making the course enjoyable for a broad range of handicaps while still providing a serious test for stronger players.

What we particularly like about the Knight's Course is the amount of strategy involved. Water comes into play on ten holes, while doglegs, carefully positioned bunkers and mature trees regularly influence the best line from the tee. There are opportunities to be aggressive, but this is definitely a course where thinking about your next shot can save plenty of trouble.

The standout hole has to be the par-5 11th. Eighteen bunkers protect the green, creating one of the most distinctive approaches on the course and making course management absolutely essential. Longer hitters may be tempted to attack, but finding the wrong bunker can quickly turn a potential birdie opportunity into a battle to save par.

The quality of the practice facilities is another major reason we like Meldrum House. The Golf Academy covers around 24 acres and includes a 13-bay driving range equipped with Toptracer technology, alongside grass tees, dedicated putting and pitching greens, practice bunkers and three USGA-standard greens within the short-game area. It is an excellent set-up if you want to warm up properly before playing or spend some time working on your game during a longer stay.

One important thing to know is that the Knight's Course is a private club. Visiting golfers gain access by staying at Meldrum House, which helps give the course a quieter and more exclusive atmosphere than many busy resort layouts.
