The Great North Sea Residences

Aberdeen

average rating is 5 out of 5

The Great North Sea Residences provide luxury self-contained accommodation at Trump International Scotland on the Aberdeenshire coast. Positioned above the North Sea and surrounded by rolling dunes, championship links and open countryside, the residences offer considerably more space and privacy than a conventional hotel room. They are particularly well suited to couples, families and small golf groups planning a longer golf holiday in North-East Scotland.

The collection consists of five restored stone cottages created from buildings belonging to a 19th-century coastguard station. Their distinctive Belhelvie Blue granite exteriors preserve the character of the original buildings, while the interiors combine traditional Scottish details with modern comfort. Wood panelling, bespoke cabinetry, natural slate, soft fabrics and cast-iron log-burning stoves give the accommodation a warm country-house feel.

One and two-bedroom cottages are available, with grand en-suite bedrooms and flexible additional sleeping space in selected residences. Each property includes a private sun porch, lounge and dining area, fully fitted kitchen, pantry, utility room and ground-floor facilities. This home-from-home arrangement works especially well for golfers who want to stay for several nights, prepare occasional meals or relax together without always using the resort’s public areas.

Panoramic views towards the North Sea are a major part of the experience. Guests also receive private access to the residences and can use an exclusive putting green, making it easy to practise before heading onto the championship links. Resident privileges and tailored services are available, including assistance through the resort’s Trump Attaché service.

The residences sit within easy reach of the Old and New Courses at Trump International Golf Links Scotland. Together, the two layouts provide 36 holes of modern coastal golf among some of the largest dunes in the country. Extensive practice facilities, PGA coaching and caddie services are also available, allowing golfers to build a complete stay-and-play experience without leaving the estate.

Dining is available across the resort. The Dunes Restaurant & Bar offers relaxed food close to the clubhouse, while Trump’s Restaurant & Cellar provides a more refined dining experience at MacLeod House. The Clavis Whisky Bar has a collection of more than 250 malts, making it a tempting place for a quiet post-round drink. In-residence dining and other tailored arrangements may also be available during the stay.

Guests looking for time away from golf can explore Balmedie Beach, the Aberdeenshire coastline and the shops, restaurants and cultural attractions of Aberdeen. Castles, whisky distilleries and traditional fishing villages provide plenty of options for longer days out, while country pursuits and wellness treatments can be arranged through the wider resort.

At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend The Great North Sea Residences for groups who want the freedom of a private holiday cottage without losing the service and facilities of a five-star golf resort. The shared lounges, kitchens and outdoor spaces make them especially suitable for two couples or a small group of friends playing both Trump International courses and other leading links around Aberdeen.

The residences can also form part of a wider North Sea golf itinerary. Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay are both within reach, while selected packages combine unlimited golf at Trump International Scotland with rounds at neighbouring clubs. Package inclusions, tee times and resident privileges should be confirmed when booking.

About The Area

Aberdeen City sits at the gateway to one of Scotland’s most powerful golf regions. This stretch of coastline is defined by towering dunes, firm-running links turf and championship layouts that test every part of your game.

Just south of the city lies Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and consistently ranked among the UK’s top links. A short drive north brings you to Trump International Golf Links, a modern championship course carved through dramatic dunes along the North Sea. Nearby Cruden Bay Golf Club offers a more traditional, quirky links experience with unforgettable back-nine views.

Golf here is raw and authentic — wind can be a factor, the turf is fast and imaginative shot-making is rewarded. It’s proper Scottish golf.

Off the course, Aberdeen blends granite architecture with a lively restaurant scene. Union Street offers traditional pubs and contemporary dining, while the harbour serves excellent local seafood. Whisky lovers can easily access the nearby Speyside distilleries for tastings.

The ideal golf season runs from May through September, when daylight stretches long into the evening and the courses are at their firm-running best.

For golfers seeking championship links in a less commercialised setting, Aberdeen delivers world-class pedigree without the crowds of St Andrews.
