Carnoustie Golf Links
Carnoustie
Carnoustie Golf Links is one of the most famous names in Scottish golf and a proper bucket-list stop for golfers who want a serious links challenge. Set on the Angus coast, north of Dundee, Carnoustie is home to three courses: the Championship Course, the Burnside Course and the Buddon Links, making it a strong base for a multi-round Scotland golf holiday.
The headline is, of course, the Carnoustie Championship Course. Known as “Golf’s Greatest Test”, it has hosted The Open Championship eight times, most recently in 2018, as well as Women’s Open and Seniors Open events. This is classic championship links golf: firm fairways, deep bunkers, punishing rough, changing wind and the famous Barry Burn waiting to punish anything loose coming home.
For UK golfers, Carnoustie works brilliantly as part of an east coast Scotland itinerary. St Andrews, Kingsbarns, Panmure, Monifieth and Montrose are all within reach, giving golfers the chance to build a trip around some of Scotland’s best links golf without wasting time on long transfers.
The Burnside Course adds character and a strong second-round option, while the Buddon Links mixes classic links holes with tree-lined sections, lakes and wildlife-rich surroundings.
For a Scottish golf holiday with history, atmosphere and a genuine test of nerve, Carnoustie Golf Links is hard to beat. It is demanding, memorable and exactly the sort of course golfers travel to Scotland to experience.
