Royal Óbidos Golf Course is a scenic championship layout on Portugal’s Silver Coast, close to the medieval town of Óbidos and the Atlantic shoreline. Designed by Severiano Ballesteros, it uses the resort’s rolling terrain to create an open, modern test with changing elevations and expansive views. Lisbon Airport is approximately 89km away by road, so the course works well for a short golf break and as part of a longer west coast itinerary.

The 18-hole, par-72 course extends to around 6,400 metres from the back tees and was shaped to sit naturally within the landscape. Generous playing areas make it approachable for holiday golfers, but the combination of water, contours and coastal wind ensures that good scoring still requires a plan. Ballesteros gives players decisions from the tee rather than demanding the same shot repeatedly, and the best angle into a green is not always found by simply chasing maximum distance.

Mixed-handicap groups should find enough room to enjoy the round, while lower-handicap golfers can take on more aggressive lines and test their distance control on the approaches.

Practice and clubhouse facilities make Royal Óbidos straightforward for travelling groups. The resort has a driving range, putting green and chipping area, plus individual or group tuition through its golf academy. A well-stocked pro shop can help with equipment and essentials. After playing, The Legend Restaurant in the clubhouse serves food and drinks with views across the driving range and ocean, creating an easy place to compare cards before returning to the hotel.
