Belas Clube de Campo Golf Course

Belas

average rating is 4 out of 5

Belas Clube de Campo offers a scenic and challenging round among the rolling hills and valleys northwest of Lisbon. Surrounded by native vegetation and enjoying impressive views towards the Sintra Mountains, it provides a peaceful countryside setting while remaining within easy reach of Portugal’s lively capital.

Designed by American golf architect Rocky Roquemore, the 18-hole, par-72 championship course measures 6,109 metres. The layout follows the natural shape of the land, with elevation changes, carefully placed bunkers, water hazards and sloping greens encouraging golfers to think their way around rather than simply relying on distance. The varied routing means each hole feels different, while the surrounding trees, wildlife and open views give the course a strong connection with nature.

Accuracy from the tee is important, particularly as the course moves through its more demanding hills and valleys. Golfers who find the correct side of the fairway will benefit from better angles into the greens, while misplaced shots can leave awkward approaches or bring the hazards into play. Several elevated tees provide excellent views across the course and towards Sintra, but the undulating terrain means that hiring a buggy may be worth considering, especially during the warmer months.

Practice facilities are available for golfers looking to warm up before their round, while the clubhouse provides a comfortable place to enjoy food and drinks afterwards. Belas works particularly well as part of a Lisbon golf holiday, offering a quieter parkland experience alongside the region’s coastal and resort courses.

Away from golf, visitors can explore the colourful palaces, gardens and historic streets of Sintra, spend an evening enjoying Lisbon’s restaurants and bars, or travel to Cascais for beaches, seafood and its attractive marina. The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and the dramatic cliffs at Cabo da Roca also make excellent additions to a longer stay.
