Heritage La Réserve Golf Links
South Coast
La Réserve Golf Links offers a very different kind of Mauritius golf experience. Set high above Bel Ombre on the island's south-west coast, this striking course combines the challenge of links-style golf with extraordinary views over the Indian Ocean. We'd particularly recommend it to golfers who enjoy creative shot-making, dramatic scenery and a course that feels genuinely unlike the island's more traditional tropical layouts.
Co-designed by Peter Matkovich and Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, the 18-hole, par-72 course opened in 2023. Its rolling fairways, revetted bunkers, native grasses and exposed greens take inspiration from classic links golf, but the hillside setting brings its own challenges. With substantial changes in elevation and ocean views from every hole, club selection and positioning are just as important as distance. We particularly like how the wind and ground contours invite you to play different types of shots.
La Réserve was created on former sugar-cane land beside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with native planting helping the course blend into its surroundings. It has already hosted the Mauritius Open and earned an impressive reputation for its championship test. The elevated clubhouse is an inviting place to take in the views after your round.
For a memorable Mauritius golf holiday, we'd pair La Réserve with Heritage Golf Club's Le Château Course, whose lush parkland setting offers a wonderful contrast. Staying at Heritage Le Telfair or Heritage Awali also puts the beaches, restaurants and spa facilities of Bel Ombre within easy reach. As access to La Réserve is reserved for club members, their guests and eligible Heritage resort guests, we'd plan this as part of a carefully arranged, tailor-made golf stay.

About The Area
Waterlooville is a practical Hampshire base for a South Coast golf break, especially for golfers who want easy access to Portsmouth, Hayling Island, the South Downs and nearby parkland golf. Rome2Rio lists Southampton as the nearest airport at 15.3 miles, while Travelmath puts Southampton Airport at around 22 miles from Waterlooville.
The main golf option is Waterlooville Golf Club, founded in 1907. The club describes it as an 18-hole parkland course measuring 6,550 yards, with tree-lined fairways, water hazards, a practice range and putting green. The club also notes that the course was designed by Sir Henry Cotton and includes five par 5s, five par 3s and eight par 4s.
Away from the course, Waterlooville is useful because it sits close to several strong day-out areas. Portsmouth offers the Historic Dockyard, Spinnaker Tower and waterfront attractions, while the South Downs gives walking, cycling and countryside.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Waterlooville works best as a Hampshire golf weekend, a society base, or a practical stop for combining Waterlooville Golf Club with Hayling Island, Portsmouth and the South Downs.
