About The Area
Douglas is a brilliant base for an Isle of Man golf holiday, especially if you want easy access to courses, seafront hotels, restaurants and island exploring. As the island’s capital, it gives golfers a practical place to stay, with Douglas Bay, the promenade, cafés, pubs, shops and transport links all close together.
The most convenient course is Douglas Golf Club, also known as Pulrose Golf Club. It sits on the edge of the capital, around six minutes from the town centre, and offers an 18-hole, par-69 layout measuring 5,922 yards. The course has roots going back to 1891, with the current Pulrose layout designed in 1927 by Dr Alister MacKenzie, making it a great value round with proper architectural interest.
For a more scenic coastal test, King Edward Bay Golf Club is around 10 minutes from central Douglas in Onchan. First designed by Tom Morris in 1893, it offers 18 holes with elevated views over the island, fast springy turf and memorable holes looking back towards Douglas Bay.
Away from golf, Douglas has plenty to keep the trip feeling full. The promenade heritage walk covers 1.5 miles of Victorian-era landmarks, including the Gaiety Theatre and the horse tram service, with pubs, hotels, restaurants and cafés along the route.
For UK golfers, Douglas works perfectly as a tailor-made Isle of Man golf break, either on its own or combined with Castletown, Peel, Ramsey and other island courses. Hashtag Golf Travel can help plan the right hotels, tee times, transfers and wider Isle of Man itinerary.
