Maspalomas Golf
Las Palmas
Maspalomas Golf offers an enjoyable year-round round beside one of Gran Canaria’s most famous natural landmarks. Located in the sunny south of the island, the course sits alongside the protected Maspalomas Dunes, creating a striking contrast between green fairways, palm trees and sweeping golden sands stretching towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Designed by Scottish golf architect Mackenzie Ross and opened in 1968, this 18-hole, par-73 course is long, flat and comfortable to walk. Broad fairways provide plenty of confidence from the tee, making the layout suitable for holiday golfers and mixed-handicap groups. However, its generous appearance can be deceptive, with strategically positioned bunkers, raised greens and carefully placed hazards rewarding golfers who choose sensible lines and control their approach shots.
The nearby Atlantic has a significant influence on the round. Cooling trade winds make playing conditions pleasant throughout much of the year, but they can also alter distances and place extra importance on ball flight and club selection. The flat terrain may make Maspalomas less physically demanding than many volcanic island courses, yet its length and changing breeze ensure experienced golfers still have plenty to think about. The course has also hosted international events, adding to its golfing pedigree.
Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and pitching area, with coaching, equipment hire and buggies also available. After the round, golfers can enjoy food and drinks at the clubhouse before exploring the surrounding resort area.
Away from golf, visitors can walk beside the Maspalomas Dunes, watch the sunset near Maspalomas Lighthouse or enjoy the beaches, restaurants and shops of Meloneras and Playa del Inglés. Boat trips, watersports and a visit to the attractive marina at Puerto de Mogán also make excellent additions to a Gran Canaria golf holiday.
