Porsche Golf Course
Rotthalmünster
Porsche Golf Course is the more accommodating companion to Beckenbauer at Gutshof Penning, but it is far from an afterthought. Bernhard Langer designed both layouts in the River Rott floodplain, giving Porsche the same emphasis on thoughtful water placement while creating wider fairways and fewer lateral channels. It is a natural second round for groups staying on the estate and a sensible first taste of golf at Bad Griesbach.
The 18-hole, par-71 course occupies a comparatively compact area of around 65 hectares. Fairways are gently modelled and largely flat, making the course comfortable to walk and easier to read from the tee than its championship neighbour. Recreational golfers have more space in which to find position, although mature trees, ponds and strategically placed water still punish a careless line.
Several longer par fours prevent the course from becoming a simple resort warm-up. Holes four, six and 18 ask for both a committed drive and a properly struck second shot, so stronger players still have opportunities to use length. Elsewhere, the best score often comes from choosing the side of the fairway that opens the green rather than automatically hitting driver. Wider landing areas offer choices; they do not remove the need for a plan.
The putting surfaces are hand-mown and the course has its own putting green, allowing golfers to learn the pace immediately before play. Water hazards become more influential when the wind moves across the open floodplain, and the old trees framing several holes help create a more established feel than the course’s accessible character might suggest. Current rules, including arrangements for buggies, trolleys or dogs, should be confirmed for the intended tee time.
Gutshof Penning lies between Porsche and Beckenbauer. The estate offers 46 junior and senior suites, four 95-square-metre cottages, a heated outdoor pool, infrared sauna and a restaurant with terrace and chestnut-shaded beer garden. Practice facilities are close by, while the wider Quellness Golf Resort adds further championship, short-course and coaching choices. That wider selection makes it easy to follow Porsche with a more demanding test on a longer stay.
Porsche suits mixed-handicap groups, golfers easing into a multi-round stay and players who prefer strategic interest without the relentless pressure of the Beckenbauer Course.

About The Area
Rotthalmünster is a brilliant choice for golfers who want a Germany golf holiday built around quiet Bavarian countryside, serious course variety and proper spa relaxation. Set close to Bad Griesbach in Lower Bavaria, it sits within one of Germany’s strongest golf regions, making it ideal for players who want plenty of golf without the feel of a busy city break.
The main appeal is the Penning golf area within Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, where the Beckenbauer Golf Course and Porsche Golf Course are based in Rotthalmünster. Quellness describes itself as Europe’s largest golf resort, with 10 varied golf courses, three golf hotels and three estate houses, giving golfers a huge amount of choice in one region.
The Beckenbauer Golf Course is an 18-hole layout designed by Bernhard Langer and has hosted major professional tournament golf, while the Porsche Golf Course sits right next door and offers another strong 18-hole option for a slightly different style of round. Nearby Golfclub Sagmühle adds even more variety, with 18 holes across almost 60 hectares, framed by mature trees, water hazards and ornamental planting.
Away from the fairways, Rotthalmünster works beautifully for golfers who enjoy a slower pace. Bad Griesbach is known for thermal mineral water, wellness facilities and its position in the Lower Bavaria spa region, while Passau and the surrounding countryside make easy add-ons.
