Le Kempferhof

Plobsheim

average rating is 4 out of 5

Le Kempferhof is a superb choice for a France golf holiday, especially for UK golfers who want a premium course with real character, easy access to Strasbourg and the charm of Alsace close by. Set in Plobsheim, around 15 minutes from Strasbourg, the course sits within an 85-hectare estate beside the Rhine, surrounded by mature oaks, beeches and poplars.

The 18-hole course was designed by Robert von Hagge and opened in 1990. Playing to a par 72 at 5,989 metres, it is not just about distance. Le Kempferhof is a strategic woodland-style test, with sculpted greens, large bunkers, mounding, mature trees and more than a dozen water hazards shaping the round. It rewards golfers who can place the ball well and think ahead, making it a strong option for confident players who enjoy a course with proper design interest.

For a golf break in eastern France, the location is a big part of the appeal. Strasbourg adds cathedral views, restaurants, canals and culture, while the Alsace Wine Route gives the trip plenty of wider itinerary value away from the fairways.

One important planning note: Le Kempferhof is currently undergoing a major transformation. The official site says the hotel is under renovation and unable to provide accommodation at the moment, although the golf course, clubhouse, pro shop, practice area and restaurant remain open. For now, it works best as a standout golf day within an Alsace or Strasbourg-based itinerary.

About The Area

Plobsheim is a lovely choice for golfers who want an Alsace golf holiday with peaceful countryside, quality golf and easy access to Strasbourg. Set in the Bas-Rhin department, close to the Rhine and the Rhône-Rhine Canal, it offers a quieter base than staying in the city, while still keeping Strasbourg’s restaurants, culture and famous cathedral within easy reach. Strasbourg is around 13–20 km away, depending on route, making Plobsheim a practical option for a short French golf break.

The main draw is Golf du Kempferhof, one of the standout courses in Alsace. The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring 5,989 metres, set across 85 hectares beside the Rhine in the Alsatian countryside. Designed by American architect Robert von Hagge in 1990, it is known for its natural setting, mature trees, water features and strategic challenge.

Away from the fairways, Plobsheim gives golfers a relaxed countryside setting with easy access to cycling routes, canal paths and Rhine-side scenery. The wider area also works brilliantly for day trips, whether that means exploring Strasbourg, visiting Alsatian villages, enjoying local food and wine, or adding the Alsace Wine Route into a longer itinerary.

For UK golfers, Plobsheim is ideal as part of a tailor-made France golf holiday, especially for those who want strong golf without the busier resort feel. Hashtag Golf Travel can help plan the right hotels, tee times, transfers and add-ons around Plobsheim, Strasbourg and the wider Alsace region.
