Golf Barrière Saint-Julien is a fantastic choice for golfers looking to experience the rolling countryside and traditional landscapes of Normandy. Located near Pont-l’Évêque, a short drive from Deauville, the club sits across around 90 hectares of classic Pays d’Auge scenery, with orchards, wooded areas and gently undulating terrain creating a wonderfully peaceful setting for a round.

Opened in 1989, the club offers 27 holes across two courses, both designed by Alain Prat and Bill Baker with a distinctly British influence. The main attraction is Le Vallon, an 18-hole, par-72 championship course measuring 6,035 metres. Overlooking the Touques Valley, it combines open stretches with elevation changes and increasingly strategic golf as the round develops.

We particularly like the way Le Vallon eases you into the round. The opening nine offers several genuine birdie opportunities when you find the fairways, encouraging confident golf without making the course feel overly punishing. As you move into the more demanding sections, positioning becomes increasingly important, with the rolling ground and changing angles making club selection and course management a much bigger part of the challenge.

Alongside it is Le Bocage, a nine-hole, par-33 course measuring 2,258 metres. With very little heavy rough, it is a more forgiving layout and works brilliantly for beginners, higher-handicap golfers or anyone wanting to fit in an additional nine during their stay. We also think it is ideal for loosening up before tackling Le Vallon or enjoying a more relaxed afternoon round.

Practice facilities are excellent, with a driving range offering 10 covered and 20 outdoor positions, alongside a putting green, practice bunker and approach green. The Barrière Golf Academy also provides professional coaching for golfers looking to improve during their visit.

After golf, the Club House is a great place to settle in for lunch or a drink. Its terrace overlooks the Norman countryside and course, while the restaurant serves regional-style food in a relaxed setting.
