About The Area
Mougins is a brilliant base for a golf holiday on the Côte d’Azur, combining two highly regarded courses with Provençal charm, excellent restaurants and easy access to Cannes. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is around 25 kilometres away by road, with the drive taking roughly 25–30 minutes in light traffic. Hiring a car gives golfers the most flexibility for exploring the surrounding courses and Riviera towns.
The headline venue is Royal Mougins Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-71 championship course designed by Robert von Hagge. Measuring just over 6,000 metres, the layout winds through a secluded valley of olive trees, woodland and traditional Provençal terraces. Water hazards, elevated greens and strategic bunkering make accuracy important throughout the round. Non-members can play through the club’s “Member for a Day” option, although advance booking is strongly recommended.
Golf de Cannes-Mougins provides another exceptional local round. Originally designed by Harry Colt and later remodelled by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, its par-72 course runs through the protected Valmasque forest. The layout combines gently undulating fairways with a river, several water hazards and quick, well-defended greens. It has also hosted the Cannes Open on the European circuit.
Away from golf, Mougins’ hilltop old village is filled with narrow streets, galleries, artists’ studios and restaurants. The town has long been associated with Pablo Picasso and remains known for both art and gastronomy. Current cultural highlights include the FAMM Femmes Artistes Musée Mougins, the Centre of Photography and Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel.
Cannes and its Mediterranean beaches are around 15 minutes away, while Grasse, Antibes and the wider French Riviera are easy day trips. We particularly recommend Mougins in spring and early autumn, when the weather is comfortable for golf and the coast is less crowded.
