Chateau des Vigiers

Bergerac

average rating is 4 out of 5

Château des Vigiers is a charming golf and spa resort in the Dordogne, ideal for UK golfers looking for a relaxed French golf holiday with countryside, wine, good food and plenty of character. Set near Bergerac, close to Saint-Émilion and Bordeaux, the resort is surrounded by vineyards, lakes, plum trees and oak woodland, giving it a very different feel from the busier coastal golf destinations.

The main attraction is the 27-hole golf course, designed by Donald Steel. The layout is split into three 9-hole loops, offering different 18-hole combinations and plenty of variety across a longer stay. The course is scenic and natural rather than overly manufactured, with water, woodland, vineyards and thoughtful bunkering shaping the round.

For golfers, Château des Vigiers works especially well because it feels like a complete stay-and-play resort. Practice facilities include covered and open driving range bays, pitching greens, training bunkers, chipping and putting areas, plus a 6-hole academy course for warm-ups or less experienced players.

Away from the fairways, guests can choose between the historic Château and the more modern Le Relais hotel, with spa facilities, relaxed dining and the Michelin-starred Les Fresques restaurant adding a real sense of occasion.

For a France golf break with easy-going golf, Dordogne scenery, wine country and proper French charm, Château des Vigiers is a lovely option for couples, groups and longer touring holidays.

About The Area

Bergerac is a superb choice for golfers who want a French golf holiday with countryside charm, wine, history and relaxed South West France scenery. Set on the Dordogne River in the heart of the Périgord Pourpre, the town is known for its old streets, riverside setting and long wine-making heritage, with local tourism describing the area as a treat for wine and culture lovers.

The main golfing highlight is Château des Vigiers, a beautiful golf estate near Bergerac with 27 holes split across three 9-hole loops: La Vallée, Le Lac and Les Vignes. This gives golfers three different 18-hole combinations, plus a 6-hole academy course and strong practice facilities, making it a great base for groups who want variety without too much travelling. Château Les Merles is another useful nearby option, offering a technical 9-hole, par-35 course beside the Liorac forest and Bergerac vineyards.

Away from the fairways, Bergerac adds plenty to the holiday. You can explore wine routes, visit cellars, enjoy riverside meals, wander local markets or head out into the wider Dordogne for bastide towns, châteaux and slow, scenic days.

For UK golfers, Bergerac works brilliantly as a tailor-made France golf break, helped by Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport and seasonal routes from the UK. Hashtag Golf Travel can help plan the right mix of golf, hotels, wine country and Dordogne exploring, creating a trip that feels easy, authentic and properly French.
