Shrigley Hall Golf offers a scenic 18-hole championship course in the Cheshire countryside, set within the 262-acre estate of Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa near Macclesfield. The par-71 course measures 6,189 yards and was designed by renowned golf architect Donald Steel, whose career included work at every Open Championship venue in Britain. Rather than relying purely on length, Shrigley Hall uses the natural terrain to create its challenge, with slopes, streams, ponds and woodland regularly influencing club selection and shot strategy.
One of the toughest holes is the par-three 8th, where golfers must negotiate a meandering stream, greenside ponds and a wooded backdrop. The course then saves plenty of drama for the finish, with holes 16 to 18 regarded by the resort as one of its strongest stretches. The final hole is a particularly memorable par three played across water towards the green in front of the Golf Lodge, providing a testing finish to the round.
Practice facilities include a 250-yard practice area with target flags, practice bunker and putting green, while the six-hole Oakridge par-three course provides an additional option for short-game practice or a relaxed extra round. Holes on the Oakridge layout range from approximately 60 to 90 yards.
Visitors are welcome and no official handicap is required, although golfers are expected to understand normal course etiquette and pace of play. GPS buggies and trolleys are available, alongside changing facilities, a golf retail area, halfway house and club hire. The Golf Lodge provides a bar, casual dining and a terrace overlooking the 18th green for post-round food and drinks.
