Carden Park

Chester

average rating is 4 out of 5

Carden Park Golf offers 36 holes across two contrasting championship courses on a 1,000-acre country estate near Chester. With accommodation, practice facilities and dining all on site, it is particularly well suited to golf groups seeking a convenient multi-round break without daily transfers.

The Cheshire Course is the longer of the two layouts, playing to 7,045 yards with a par of 72. Its tree-lined holes, lush fairways and strategically positioned bunkers create a classic parkland challenge framed by attractive Cheshire countryside. The course rewards controlled driving and accurate approaches, although a choice of tees makes it accessible to mixed-handicap groups.

Carden Park’s Nicklaus Course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and provides a noticeably different test. Measuring 6,824 yards with a par of 72, it uses undulating ground, strategically placed water hazards and well-defended greens to place greater emphasis on positioning and course management. It may be shorter than the Cheshire Course, but choosing when to attack—and when to play conservatively—is central to scoring well.

The two courses complement one another nicely, giving visiting golfers plenty of variety over a two- or three-night stay. Halfway houses are available on both layouts, while the refurbished clubhouse is home to the professional shop and Jack’s Bar.

Practice facilities include two putting greens, a dedicated short-game area and an 11-bay, floodlit driving range powered by Toptracer technology. PGA coaching and TrackMan-supported club fitting are also available through the golf academy.

Away from the fairways, Carden Park offers comfortable hotel accommodation, several dining options, leisure facilities and an impressive destination spa. This combination makes it a strong choice for golf societies, couples and groups whose non-golfers would also like plenty to enjoy during the stay.

About The Area

Warrington is a very practical North West golf base, especially for groups who want easy access to Manchester, Liverpool, Chester and Cheshire. It is not a classic resort destination, but it works brilliantly as a central hub for a golf weekend, society trip or value-led short break.

The main local course is Warrington Golf Club, based at Hill Warren in Appleton. The club has a clear visitor setup, with green-fee packages, society options, bar and catering facilities, and a reputation for welcoming returning visitors. For a more relaxed extra round, Poulton Park Golf Club offers a 9-hole course with 18 tees in Warrington and states that visitors are always welcome.

Away from golf, Warrington has plenty to fill a trip. Walton Hall and Gardens is one of the main local attractions, while the town also gives access to parks, shopping, food, TeamSport indoor karting and wider Cheshire days out. For groups staying a little longer, Chester Zoo, Tatton Park, Delamere Forest, Manchester and Liverpool are all realistic add-ons.

For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Warrington works best as a North West society base, a practical multi-course golf weekend, or a golf-and-activities break with strong road links, two major airports nearby and plenty to do between rounds.
