BlackSeaRama Golf
Balchik
BlackSeaRama is a Gary Player-designed championship course occupying a clifftop plateau approximately 200 metres above Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast. With extensive sea views and neighbouring courses at Lighthouse and Thracian Cliffs, it forms part of the compact Cape Kaliakra golf region near Balchik.
The par-72 course extends to 6,648 metres from the back tees and was Gary Player’s first completed design in Eastern Europe. Although the plateau is relatively level, the exposed position means wind frequently determines how the course plays. A comfortable hole in calm weather can require a very different strategy once the breeze arrives from the Black Sea.
Wide fairways provide visual encouragement from the tee, but carefully positioned bunkers, lakes and large greens create much of the challenge. Those generous putting surfaces can leave lengthy, heavily breaking putts when approaches finish on the wrong tier. The design generally gives golfers space to play, while still rewarding accurate positioning and sensible club selection.
BlackSeaRama builds towards a particularly strong closing sequence. Water becomes a major factor around the par-four 16th and par-five 17th, where conservative approaches can be the sensible choice. The signature 18th is a long par three measuring as much as 224 metres from the back tee. Its combination of length, exposure and an intimidating finish makes par an excellent score.
Practice facilities are extensive. The natural-grass driving range can be played from both ends and accommodates up to 60 golfers, while three practice greens and two bunkers support dedicated short-game work. PGA coaching, rental clubs, electric trolleys and buggies are available through the golf academy and professional shop. An official handicap or recognised Green Card is required to play.
The Tuscan-style clubhouse contains the professional shop, bar, bistro and panoramic terraces. Accommodation is available within BlackSeaRama Golf & Villas, allowing golfers to stay on site and combine this course with nearby rounds at Lighthouse Golf Course and Thracian Cliffs.

About The Area
Golden Sands is a lively Black Sea resort that works brilliantly for golfers who want sunshine, beach time and something a little different from the usual European golf break. Set just north of Varna, it offers a long sandy beach, waterfront hotels, restaurants, bars, water sports and plenty to do after your round, making it a strong choice for groups, couples and golfers who like a proper holiday atmosphere alongside their golf. The resort also sits beside Golden Sands Nature Park, giving the area a greener, more scenic feel than you might expect from a beach destination.
While Golden Sands itself is best known for the beach, the golf appeal comes from Bulgaria’s impressive Black Sea courses further up the coast around Balchik and Cape Kaliakra. Thracian Cliffs is the headline course, an 18-hole Gary Player Signature design carved into dramatic cliffside terrain, with sea views from every hole. BlackSeaRama is another Gary Player design, offering a more open clifftop challenge, while Lighthouse Golf Course, designed by Ian Woosnam, adds resort-style golf with Black Sea views and a strong championship feel.
For UK golfers, Golden Sands is ideal if you want a golf holiday that blends beach resort comfort, coastal scenery and memorable courses. It is especially good for those who want to combine relaxed all-inclusive-style resort days with standout rounds on some of Bulgaria’s best golf courses.
