The Westin Kierland Golf Club

Scottsdale

average rating is 4 out of 5

Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, The Westin Kierland Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf across three distinctive nine-hole layouts: Acacia, Ironwood and Mesquite. Designed by local golf architect Scott Miller and managed by Troon, the courses combine lush playing surfaces with lakes, desert vegetation and sweeping views towards Camelback Mountain, Mummy Mountain, Pinnacle Peak and the McDowell Mountains.

The three nines can be combined to create different 18-hole rounds, giving golfers plenty of variety during a longer stay. Although they share the same Sonoran Desert setting, each has its own character. Acacia is particularly notable for its changes in elevation, while Ironwood delivers a more traditional Arizona desert-golf experience. Mesquite features generous fairways alongside strategically positioned water hazards, providing another contrasting challenge.

Across the 27 holes, golfers encounter more than 300 bunkers, scenic lakes and elevation changes of as much as 75 feet. The generous fairways make Kierland approachable for visiting golfers, but the extensive bunkering, water and changes in terrain mean good positioning remains important when attacking the greens. Multiple teeing options allow players of different abilities to choose a suitable challenge.

One of Kierland's distinguishing features is its emphasis on making resort golf enjoyable as well as challenging. The club has developed a reputation for introducing unusual ways to travel around the course alongside conventional golf carts. GolfBoards remain available at the resort, giving golfers the option of a more active way to move between shots.

Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and pitching area, while golfers wanting to develop their game can access instruction through VISION54, whose teaching base is located at The Westin Kierland Golf Club. The Golf Shop also provides equipment, clothing and other essentials for visiting players.

The club has received recognition including being named among Golf Advisor's Top 10 Public Courses in Phoenix/Scottsdale, while Golf Digest has included Kierland among America's 9 Most Cheerful Golf Courses. The facility is also recognised as a Distinguished Golf Destination by BoardRoom Magazine and Forbes Travel Guide.

With three contrasting nine-hole courses, impressive mountain scenery and excellent resort facilities, The Westin Kierland Golf Club is a strong choice for a Scottsdale golf holiday, offering enough variety for several rounds while keeping golfers within one convenient resort.
