The Links at Spanish Bay
Pebble Beach
The Links at Spanish Bay is a distinctive part of the Pebble Beach golf experience, offering a coastal links-style round on California’s Monterey Peninsula. For UK golfers planning a luxury USA golf holiday, it pairs brilliantly with Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill and Del Monte, helping create a proper bucket-list golf itinerary rather than a one-course trip.
Opened in 1987, the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum, with rolling fairways, natural dunes and Pacific Ocean views giving it a strong Scottish links feel. The course is just over 6,800 yards with four tee boxes, making it playable for different standards while still asking plenty of questions when the wind gets up.
Spanish Bay is often seen as the more scenic, relaxed companion to Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill, but it should not be treated as an easy extra. The course rewards imagination, tidy approach play and smart positioning around its bunkers, dunes and coastal angles. It also ranks 54th in Golf Digest’s 2025–26 America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses list, underlining its quality within US public golf.
One important note for current planning: The Links at Spanish Bay is closed while Gil Hanse leads a major transformation project, which began on 18 March 2026 and is scheduled to last 13 months. Once complete, it should be an even stronger option for a Pebble Beach golf holiday.
