Abu Dhabi Golf Club

Abu Dhabi

average rating is 5 out of 5

Abu Dhabi Golf Club is one of the UAE’s best-known championship golf venues, located in Khalifa City between central Abu Dhabi and Yas Island. Lush fairways, ornamental trees, palm-lined holes and shimmering lakes create a green oasis within the surrounding desert landscape. The club’s unmistakable centrepiece is its falcon-shaped clubhouse, designed to represent the UAE’s national bird with its wings spread above the course.

The club’s main attraction is the National Course, an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by Peter Harradine. Measuring approximately 7,600 yards from the longest tees, it provides a serious championship test, although four teeing options allow visiting golfers to select a more suitable distance. GPS-equipped golf carts are available, which is especially welcome during Abu Dhabi’s warmer months.

The National Course combines generous-looking fairways with strategically positioned bunkers, doglegs, water hazards and large, undulating greens. Drives placed on the correct side of the fairway usually provide a clearer approach, while inaccurate tee shots can leave golfers blocked by trees or facing a difficult carry over sand or water. Its length becomes more noticeable when the breeze strengthens, so sensible course management is often more valuable than attacking every hole.

Water plays an important role throughout the round and adds both beauty and risk to the layout. The par-three 12th is one of the course’s signature challenges, requiring a confident carry across a lake towards the green. It is the sort of hole where choosing the correct club and aiming for the centre of the putting surface is usually wiser than chasing a difficult flag position.

The closing holes return towards the famous Falcon Clubhouse, which overlooks the ninth and 18th greens. This creates an impressive finish, particularly as the evening lights begin to appear across the resort. The back nine of the National Course is now fully floodlit, allowing golfers to play 3,696 yards of championship golf after sunset in cooler conditions.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club has an excellent professional tournament history. The National Course hosted 16 consecutive editions of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship between 2006 and 2021, welcoming leading players including Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler and Lee Westwood. The club has also staged major events such as the Eisenhower Trophy, LIV Golf Promotions and the Team Cup.

Practice facilities include The Range, where 12 hitting bays use TrackMan technology to provide live shot data and interactive games. Food, drinks and comfortable seating make it suitable for serious practice, group activities or a relaxed warm-up before the round. Golf coaching is also available through the club’s academy.

The Falcon Clubhouse contains several places to eat and drink, including a sports bar, café and terrace overlooking the ninth and 18th holes. Golfers also have access to a golf shop, swimming pools, fitness facilities and squash courts. An adjoining five-star golf resort hotel makes stay-and-play packages possible without the need for daily transfers.

At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend Abu Dhabi Golf Club for golfers looking for a genuine tournament experience with excellent resort facilities. The National Course is long and demanding from the back tees, but the different teeing options make it enjoyable for mixed-ability groups. Floodlit golf also adds something special, allowing visitors to play a championship back nine after sightseeing, following a late arrival or once the daytime heat has eased.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club fits perfectly into a wider Abu Dhabi golf holiday alongside Yas Links, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Yas Acres Golf & Country Club. Its position between the airport, Yas Island and central Abu Dhabi makes it one of the most convenient courses in the emirate.

About The Area

Abu Dhabi has firmly established itself as one of the Middle East’s premier golf destinations, blending championship layouts with year-round sunshine and five-star resort comfort. For UK golfers looking to combine serious golf with winter warmth, it offers immaculate conditioning, seamless service and a polished, luxury feel throughout.

The flagship venue is Abu Dhabi Golf Club, host of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the DP World Tour. Its National Course is a modern desert classic — generous off the tee but heavily protected by strategic bunkering and water hazards that demand precision on approach. On Yas Island, Yas Links Abu Dhabi delivers something rare in the region: a true links-style layout set along the Arabian Gulf, with rolling fairways and coastal winds creating a completely different challenge. Meanwhile, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club offers oceanfront holes, roaming wildlife and immaculate resort presentation.

Golf in Abu Dhabi is characterised by pristine fairways, lightning-fast greens and consistent playing conditions. Floodlit practice facilities and world-class clubhouses elevate the experience further.

Away from the fairways, the city balances modern glamour with cultural depth. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the world’s most impressive landmarks, while the Louvre Abu Dhabi adds architectural and artistic intrigue. Yas Island brings Formula 1 events, theme parks and lively beach clubs into the mix, making it ideal for mixed groups.

The best time to visit is October through April, when temperatures range from warm to comfortably hot, providing perfect winter golf conditions. For golfers seeking tournament-quality courses with guaranteed sunshine and premium hospitality, Abu Dhabi delivers a polished, high-performance golf escape.
