Arabian Ranches Golf Club offers one of Dubai’s most distinctive rounds, with an authentic desert-style championship course that feels very different from the city’s more heavily landscaped layouts. Set among gently rolling sand dunes and indigenous vegetation, the bright green fairways create a dramatic contrast against the natural desert landscape.

Designed by former Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch in association with Nicklaus Design, the 18-hole, par-72 course opened in 2004 and stretches to approximately 7,658 yards from the back tees. Multiple teeing options allow golfers to choose a suitable challenge, making the course enjoyable for mixed-handicap groups while still providing a demanding test for stronger players.

There is no conventional rough at Arabian Ranches. Golfers who miss the fairways enter sandy waste areas filled with native shrubs, uneven lies and difficult recovery options. This makes accuracy and sensible positioning extremely important, although the wide appearance of some holes encourages confident driving. Wind can also influence the round, particularly across the more exposed sections of the course.

The layout includes several excellent risk-and-reward holes. The par-five third and eighth can be reached in two when conditions are favourable, but aggressive shots must negotiate desert waste and large dunes. The seventh is a memorable Redan-style par three, where a deep bunker and strongly sloping green demand careful club selection. Undulating putting surfaces and deceptive run-off areas ensure the challenge continues after reaching the greens.

Golfers can warm up at the practice facilities or arrange tuition through the Troon Golf Academy. Green fees normally include warm-up range balls and a GPS-equipped buggy, while the clubhouse provides dining and drinks after the round.

Away from golf, visitors can enjoy horse riding or polo nearby, experience a Dubai desert safari, or travel into central Dubai for its restaurants, shopping, beaches and famous skyline.
