Mountain Creek Golf Course offers one of the most distinctive golf experiences in Thailand, combining dramatic elevation changes, mature woodland and naturally winding terrain with a design created by five-time Major champion Seve Ballesteros. Located at Sikhio in Nakhon Ratchasima, close to Lam Takhong Lake and around two hours north-east of Bangkok, it is a fantastic option for golfers looking to experience a completely different side of Thai golf.

The course forms part of Mountain Creek Golf Resort & Residences and offers 27 holes across three separate nine-hole layouts – Highland, Creek and Valley. Each takes its character from the landscape around it, allowing different combinations to be played during a longer visit. For us, this is one of the biggest attractions, as there is enough variety to make repeat rounds feel genuinely different.

Seve Ballesteros designed the course to work with the existing landscape rather than flattening it into a conventional resort layout. Mature trees, winding creeks, natural slopes and substantial elevation changes have all been incorporated into the design. The result is a course where thinking your way around is every bit as important as hitting the ball a long way.

The Highland nine makes particularly good use of the changing elevation and surrounding forest. One of the memorable features comes at the par-3 third, where a large fairway bunker shaped like an ‘S’ provides a playful nod to Seve himself. The Creek Course brings the natural waterways more prominently into the challenge, while the Valley Course creates another change of scenery as the holes work through the lower ground.

Across all three nines, we would prioritise accuracy and course management. Doglegs can leave blind approaches if you find the wrong side of the fairway, while strategically placed hazards mean an aggressive line can be rewarded or punished very quickly. Five sets of tees help make the course suitable for different abilities, allowing higher-handicap golfers to enjoy the experience while giving stronger players a much tougher championship test from the back.
