Mont Cervin Palace

Zermatt

average rating is 5 out of 5

Set on Bahnhofstrasse in the heart of Zermatt, Mont Cervin Palace is one of Switzerland’s classic grand alpine hotels. Dating back to 1852, the hotel combines old-world elegance with five-star comfort, making it a strong luxury base for a Swiss mountain and golf holiday. Its central village location places guests close to shops, restaurants, the Matterhorn Museum and Zermatt’s mountain transport links.

The hotel offers around 107 rooms and suites, with a traditional alpine style, warm interiors and many rooms featuring balconies or mountain views. Facilities include restaurants, bars, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness facilities and spa/wellness areas, giving it everything needed for a relaxed stay after a day in the mountains.

For golfers, Mont Cervin Palace works best as a premium alpine base rather than a pure golf resort. Golf Club Matterhorn is nearby in the Täsch/Randa area, while the wider Valais region offers courses such as Crans-sur-Sierre and Links Leuk as part of a touring itinerary. It is ideal for travellers who want to combine golf with Matterhorn views, mountain railways, hiking, spa time and Zermatt’s classic car-free resort atmosphere.

About The Area

Zermatt is one of Switzerland’s most iconic mountain destinations, sitting beneath the mighty Matterhorn in the upper Valais Alps. It is not a high-density golf hub, but for golfers who want a spectacular Alpine base with a memorable local round, superb hotels and world-class scenery, it is a brilliant choice. Switzerland Tourism describes Zermatt as a resort at the foot of the Matterhorn, with hiking, mountain routes, bike trails and viewpoints such as Gornergrat, Sunnegga and Rothorn all central to the experience.

The main golf venue is Matterhorn Golf Club, located between Täsch and Randa, just before Zermatt. The course is a 9-hole “plus” layout with 9 greens and 18 tees, allowing golfers to play it in two different ways. Zermatt’s official tourism site describes it as technically and strategically varied, while Valais tourism notes that it sits at around 1,400 metres, runs on both sides of the Vispa river and is almost flat, with views towards the Breithorn and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.

Golf here is best from late spring to early autumn, especially June to September, when the valley is green, the air is fresh and the mountain views are at their clearest. It is more about scenery, rhythm and enjoyment than championship intensity.

Off the course, Zermatt is exceptional. The village itself is car-light and atmospheric, with chalet-lined streets, restaurants, cafés and mountain hotels. Gornergrat is one of the classic excursions, offering panoramic views of the Matterhorn and surrounding 4,000-metre peaks.

For golfers seeking a polished Swiss mountain escape where golf is part of a wider Alpine adventure, Zermatt delivers dramatic scenery, refined hospitality and one of Europe’s most memorable mountain settings.
