Golfclub Andermatt Realp

Andermatt

average rating is 4 out of 5

Set in the dramatic Urseren Valley between Andermatt and Realp, Golfclub Andermatt Realp offers one of Switzerland’s most spectacular alpine golf experiences. Surrounded by high mountain peaks, open valley scenery and fresh alpine air, the course delivers a completely different feel to traditional parkland or resort layouts.

The 18-hole, par-72 championship course has been designed to sit naturally within the landscape, with wide fairways, natural water features and changing mountain winds shaping the round. It is challenging enough for experienced golfers, but still playable for a wide range of abilities thanks to its open design and multiple tee options. The course is open seasonally, typically from May to October, and has been recognised several times as Switzerland’s Best Golf Course.

What really makes Andermatt stand out is the setting. Every hole feels framed by the Alps, giving the round a proper sense of scale and drama. The layout is described by Andermatt Swiss Alps as inspired by classic Scottish links golf, but with a clear alpine identity — firm playing surfaces, strategic shaping and mountain views replacing coastal dunes and sea winds.

With nearby luxury hotels including The Chedi Andermatt and Radisson Blu Reussen, plus The Swiss House restaurant by the course, it works beautifully as part of a premium Swiss golf and alpine escape.

About The Area

Andermatt is one of Switzerland’s most dramatic Alpine golf destinations, set in the Ursern Valley where high mountain passes, rivers and peaks create a proper “wow, where am I?” setting. It works brilliantly for golfers who want something more adventurous than a standard resort break — mountain air, big views and a course that feels shaped by the valley itself.

The main venue is Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course, an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout designed by Kurt Rossknecht. The course sits between Andermatt and Hospental and is routed through Alpine meadows, streams, rock formations and water hazards, with wind through the valley adding a real tactical challenge. It is more open and valley-floor based than you might expect from a mountain course, so the views are huge, but the walk is still very playable.

Nearby, Realp Golf Course offers a shorter but highly scenic 9-hole alternative just eight kilometres away. It runs along the Reuss and past Alpine meadows, giving golfers another characterful mountain round if they want to extend the itinerary without travelling far.

Golf in Andermatt is seasonal, with the main course generally open from May to October, making late spring through early autumn the best window. June to September is particularly appealing, with milder weather, long daylight and the strongest chance of clear mountain views.

Off the course, Andermatt is made for active travellers. The wider holiday region offers over 850 km of hiking trails, cycling routes, mountain lakes and scenic passes, while the village itself has a polished Alpine resort feel with quality hotels, restaurants and spa options.

For golfers seeking Alpine scenery, championship-quality golf and a destination that feels genuinely different from Europe’s usual golf resorts, Andermatt delivers one of Switzerland’s most memorable mountain golf escapes.
