Finca Cortesin Golf
Estepona
Finca Cortesin Golf is one of the standout championship golf experiences on the Costa del Sol, combining a dramatic Andalusian setting with immaculate conditioning and a layout that rewards thoughtful golf. Set between Marbella and Sotogrande, close to Casares, the course winds through rolling countryside filled with olive trees and enjoys sweeping views towards the Mediterranean.
The 18-hole championship course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson and opened in 2006. Rather than forcing the layout into the landscape, Robinson used the natural movement of the estate to shape the holes, creating broad fairways, subtle elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers. The result is a course that can test elite players while remaining enjoyable for golfers playing from the appropriate tees.
What we particularly like about Finca Cortesin is that generous-looking fairways do not automatically mean an easy round. Position from the tee matters throughout, because the best angle into the greens is often found from a particular side of the fairway. Large bunkers, natural slopes and fast putting surfaces continually encourage you to think one shot ahead.
The 13th hole is one of the most memorable on the course. This par 4 plays towards a green protected by water across the front, with mature wild olive trees surrounding the hole and creating one of the strongest approach shots of the round. The closing stretch is also excellent, particularly the technical par-3 17th and risk-and-reward par-5 18th, where stronger players can consider attacking the green in two.
Finca Cortesin has serious tournament pedigree. It hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012, before welcoming the 2023 Solheim Cup, the first edition of the event ever staged in Spain. Europe retained the trophy after a dramatic 14–14 tie, giving the course a place in modern golf history. Finca Cortesín
Practice facilities are equally impressive. The Nicklaus Academy offers personalised tuition alongside modern swing-analysis technology, while green fees include access to the practice facilities and complimentary range balls before the round. The clubhouse overlooks the course and provides a relaxed restaurant and terrace for post-round food and drinks.
For golfers building a premium Costa del Sol itinerary, Finca Cortesin deserves to be high on the list. Speak to our Golf Travel Experts at Hashtag Golf Travel and we can combine it with accommodation and additional tee times around Sotogrande, Estepona and Marbella.
