Chiclana de la Frontera is one of the Costa de la Luz’s strongest golf holiday destinations, combining championship courses with golden beaches, traditional Andalusian food and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Most golf resorts are found around Novo Sancti Petri and La Barrosa, while Chiclana’s historic centre provides a more local experience filled with tapas bars, shops and traditional wine cellars. Jerez Airport is approximately 50 kilometres away by road, making transfers relatively straightforward.

The main golfing attraction is Real Novo Sancti Petri, which has two 18-hole courses designed by Spanish golfing legend Severiano Ballesteros. The Sea and Pines Course mixes tree-lined holes with a spectacular Atlantic-facing section, including the memorable sixth beside La Barrosa Beach. The Centre Course offers a different challenge, with lakes, changing elevations and strategically placed bunkers—including one shaped like Seve’s initial. Together, the two layouts provide enough variety for several rounds without leaving the resort area.

Nearby La Estancia Golf is another course we recommend adding to a Chiclana golf holiday. This natural 18-hole, par-72 layout has broad, rolling fairways, large greens and no housing surrounding the course. Lakes and streams create the main hazards, while the welcoming design allows mixed-handicap groups to enjoy the same round.

Away from golf, La Barrosa provides more than five kilometres of fine golden sand, backed by a promenade, restaurants and beach bars. The northern end is particularly attractive at sunset, with views towards Sancti Petri Castle. Visitors can also explore the old fishing settlement, take a boat or kayaking trip around Sancti Petri Island, or discover the marshes, dunes and salt flats of the Bay of Cádiz Natural Park.

Chiclana also has a long winemaking tradition, producing styles including fino, oloroso, amontillado and moscatel. A bodega visit and tasting is a great addition to a day away from the course. We particularly recommend spring and autumn for a Chiclana golf break, when conditions are generally more comfortable for playing and the beaches are quieter than during the peak summer months.
