Arcos Gardens Golf Club

Arcos De La Frontera

average rating is 4 out of 5

Arcos Gardens Golf Club, also known as Arcos Golf, is a scenic championship course set in the rolling Andalusian countryside near Arcos de la Frontera. Surrounded by olive groves, native vegetation and open farmland, the course offers a peaceful alternative to the busier golf resorts of southern Spain, with views towards lakes, distant hills and the town’s dramatic clifftop skyline.

Designed by the Landmark Golf Company, the 18-hole, par-72 course measures approximately 6,279 metres. Its creators were also involved with internationally recognised venues including the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and PGA West, and the layout was designed to challenge accomplished players while remaining enjoyable for holiday golfers.

The fairways are generally broad and inviting from the tee, but the real difficulty begins closer to the greens. Numerous bunkers, water hazards and carefully positioned trees place a premium on accurate approach play, while several greens are protected by ponds or natural changes in elevation. With five or six teeing positions on many holes, golfers can choose a distance suited to their ability, making the course a good option for mixed-handicap groups.

Water creates several memorable strategic decisions. A stream influences the risk-and-reward par-five ninth, while ponds defend the greens at the sixth and 16th. The closing par-four 18th is another strong hole, with a large lake threatening shots played down the left side. The exposed countryside setting also means the wind can significantly alter club selection from one day to the next.

Practice facilities include a driving range and putting areas, while the clubhouse provides somewhere to enjoy food and drinks after the round.

Arcos de la Frontera is only a short drive away and is well worth exploring. Its whitewashed streets, historic churches, castle, viewpoints and traditional tapas bars make it one of Andalusia’s most attractive hill towns. Golfers can also visit Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz or the villages and walking routes of the Sierra de Grazalema.

About The Area

Arcos de la Frontera is one of Andalusia’s most dramatic white villages, perched high above the Guadalete River and offering golfers a scenic inland base within reach of the Costa de la Luz. With its cliff-top views, Moorish history and relaxed pace of life, it provides a culturally rich alternative to Spain’s busier coastal resorts.

The town’s standout venue is Arcos Gardens Golf Club, a championship layout set within rolling countryside just outside the historic centre. Designed by Landmark Golf, the course features wide fairways, natural elevation changes and water hazards that come into play on several approach shots. It’s playable for mixed-ability groups but rewards thoughtful positioning and a strong short game. Within an hour’s drive, Montecastillo Golf — a former Volvo Masters host venue — provides a sterner championship test, while Sherry Golf Jerez offers a more forgiving, open layout ideal for relaxed rounds.

Golf in this region benefits from Andalusia’s warm, dry climate, with firm fairways and consistent greens throughout much of the year. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) provide the most comfortable playing conditions, avoiding the intense heat of midsummer.

Off the course, Arcos itself is a highlight. Its narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and panoramic viewpoints create one of Spain’s most photogenic settings. Traditional tapas bars and Andalusian cuisine dominate the evenings, while nearby Jerez offers sherry bodegas and flamenco performances. The Atlantic beaches of Cádiz are also within reach for rest-day excursions.

For golfers seeking scenic inland courses, authentic Spanish character and access to Andalusia’s cultural heartland, Arcos de la Frontera delivers a uniquely atmospheric and rewarding golf escape.
