Foyle Golf Centre gives visitors to Derry a full parkland round, a short course and one of the region’s most useful practice facilities in a single venue. The club lies at the foot of the Donegal hills, only minutes from the city’s historic walls and around 7km from the Everglades Hotel. Its 18-hole Earhart Course is supported by the nine-hole Woodlands par-three layout and a Trackman-powered driving range.

The Earhart is a championship-length, par-71 parkland course measuring approximately 6,643 yards from the white tees. Tree-lined holes, bunkers and several water features give the layout definition without making it inaccessible to a visiting group. Accurate placement is particularly valuable when the fairway narrows or an approach must be played from an uneven lie. Multiple tee choices allow golfers to keep the carries and overall length appropriate for their game.

The course name carries a remarkable local story. In 1932 Amelia Earhart completed the first solo transatlantic flight by a woman and landed on ground that is now the sixth green. That connection gives the round a sense of place beyond its views, and the club continues to celebrate it through the Earhart identity.

Water comes into play selectively, so the safest-looking drive can still leave a difficult approach if it finishes on the wrong side. USGA-specification greens support year-round playability and reward a controlled iron shot. The open views towards Donegal can also expose the ball to wind, changing the effective length from one visit to the next.

Practice is a major reason to visit. The all-weather driving range has 35 bays and Trackman technology, allowing golfers to work with measured ball data or simply warm up under cover. The Foyle Golf Academy supports players of different standards, while Woodlands provides a friendly nine-hole option for beginners, families, short-game practice or extra golf when a full second round is unnecessary.

The modern clubhouse and Amelia Bar give players somewhere to meet after the round. Visitors are welcomed seven days a week under the club’s normal arrangements, but tee times, range hours, hire equipment and competition closures should be checked for the travel date. Club hire and buggies can be particularly useful for an arrival-day round when luggage plans are tight.

Foyle works well as an arrival round, a lower-cost addition to a north-west links tour or the local course for a Derry city break. Its parkland setting also gives a useful change of rhythm between more exposed coastal rounds.
