The Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort is one of Northern Ireland’s most spectacular inland golf experiences, combining championship design with the beautiful lakes and woodland of County Fermanagh. Set on a peninsula between Castle Hume Lough and Lower Lough Erne near Enniskillen, the course delivers huge views, memorable water holes and the kind of peaceful setting that makes the round feel like a genuine escape.

Designed by six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo, the 18-hole, par-72 course measures 7,071 yards from the back tees. Its sand-based construction provides excellent drainage and links-like playing characteristics throughout much of the year, despite the course having a distinctly lakeside parkland setting.

Water is a major part of the challenge, coming into play on 11 of the 18 holes. That makes course management particularly important. There are opportunities to be aggressive, but the shortest route towards the green is not always the safest, and golfers who think carefully about positioning will usually be rewarded.

The opening holes move through evergreen woodland and wetlands before the course climbs towards some fantastic viewpoints across the Fermanagh Lakelands. The 7th, known as Devenish Drop, is one of our favourite holes, with an elevated tee providing brilliant views towards Devenish Island.

The signature 10th, Emerald Isle, is where the drama really increases. This short par 4 measures around 300 yards and tempts longer hitters to attack, but the green sits with water on three sides. It is a classic risk-and-reward hole where one great swing can create a birdie opportunity and one slightly loose shot can quickly turn into something much more expensive.

Later in the round, the par-5 16th runs alongside the lough and provides another memorable strategic challenge, while the unusual par-3 18th brings you back towards the resort for a dramatic finish.

Practice facilities are excellent, with the Faldo Golf Academy and all-weather driving range providing plenty of opportunity to warm up or work on your game with PGA professionals. Lough Erne Resort is also home to the neighbouring Castle Hume Course, creating a complete 36-hole golf destination.
