Galgorm Resort

Ballymena

average rating is 4 out of 5

Galgorm Resort is a brilliant choice for golfers who want a luxury countryside escape with as much to enjoy off the course as on it. Just outside Ballymena in County Antrim, the resort sits beside the River Maine, surrounded by woodland and gardens. We particularly like it for couples and groups who want championship golf, memorable dining and proper time to unwind after their rounds.

Accommodation is wonderfully varied, from comfortable hotel rooms and suites to cottage suites, log cabins and private residences. The real highlight, though, is the Thermal Spa Village. Riverside hot tubs, heated indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam rooms turn a post-round afternoon into a highlight of the stay. Dining is another strong point, whether you fancy a relaxed meal at Gillies, Italian favourites at Fratelli or drinks and dinner at Castle Kitchen + Bar.

Golfers have the championship Galgorm Castle Golf Club just a short drive away. Designed by Simon Gidman, its 18-hole, par-72 parkland course has hosted the Irish Open and offers a proper strategic test among mature trees, lakes and the Rivers Maine and Braid. The practice facilities, including a Toptracer range, are another welcome addition for anyone keen to sharpen their game.

We'd recommend combining a stay here with a round at Galgorm Castle, then heading to the Causeway Coast for links golf at Royal Portrush or Portstewart. There's also the Giant's Causeway and the beautiful Glens of Antrim to explore. For a tailor-made Northern Ireland golf holiday that pairs first-class golf with a genuinely relaxing stay, Galgorm is hard to overlook.

About The Area

Ballymena is a fantastic choice for a golf holiday in Northern Ireland, combining championship golf, beautiful countryside and traditional Irish hospitality. Located in County Antrim, this welcoming market town offers golfers excellent courses, luxury accommodation and easy access to some of Northern Ireland's most spectacular scenery, making it ideal for a relaxing golf break.

For golf, our main recommendation is Galgorm Castle Golf Club, home to the impressive 18-hole Championship Castle Course. Designed by Simon Gidman, this outstanding parkland layout has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the 2020 Irish Open. Featuring mature woodland, strategic water hazards and beautifully maintained greens, it provides a memorable golfing experience. We would also recommend Ballymena Golf Club, a picturesque 18-hole course near Broughshane, offering wonderful views towards Slemish Mountain.

Away from golf, Ballymena has plenty to explore. We would recommend visiting Slemish Mountain, famously associated with Saint Patrick, where adventurous visitors can enjoy breathtaking countryside views. Nearby Glenariff Forest Park, known as the Queen of the Glens, offers spectacular waterfalls, woodland trails and beautiful natural scenery.

For something different, explore the charming village of Broughshane, discover the historic Gracehill settlement or enjoy a relaxing spa experience at the luxurious Galgorm Resort. Ballymena's town centre also offers welcoming pubs, independent shops and excellent restaurants.

Our tip: choose Ballymena for a Northern Ireland golf holiday combining championship parkland golf, luxury spa facilities, stunning countryside and easy access to the beautiful Antrim Coast.
