Millbrook Golf Club

Queenstown

average rating is 5 out of 5

Millbrook Golf Club is one of New Zealand’s great golf destinations, offering 36 holes of championship golf surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the Wakatipu Basin. Set within Millbrook Resort near Arrowtown, the golf combines alpine scenery, rolling fairways, streams, lakes and distinctive schist rock to create an experience that feels unmistakably New Zealand. For us, it is an essential stop on any Queenstown golf holiday.
The 36 holes are divided between two full 18-hole layouts: the Remarkables Course and the Coronet Course. Together they provide plenty of variety, which makes Millbrook particularly well suited to golfers staying for several rounds rather than simply visiting for the day.

The Remarkables Course incorporates Millbrook’s original championship layout, designed by New Zealand golfing legend Sir Bob Charles. Playing to a par of 71 and measuring 6,259 metres from the back tees, it moves through established resort landscapes where water, mature trees, tussock and changing elevations continually influence your strategy. There are opportunities to attack, but finding the correct position from the tee is often far more valuable than simply chasing distance. Millbrook
The Coronet Course provides a contrasting challenge. Created by Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson, it combines the original Coronet Nine with nine newer holes developed across Mill Farm. The par-72 layout stretches to 6,342 metres from the back tees and has a more expansive feel, using elevated ground, natural valleys and panoramic mountain views to create some spectacular tee shots.

What we particularly like about Millbrook is the way the natural landscape remains part of the golf. Tussock, streams, stone walls and rolling terrain give the courses their own identity, while five teeing positions allow golfers of different abilities to choose an enjoyable challenge. Millbrook also regularly hosts the New Zealand Open, giving you the chance to play on the same fairways used by leading professionals.

Practice facilities include a covered and heated driving range, dedicated short-game and putting areas and NZPGA-qualified tuition. Electric carts with GPS, equipment hire, changing facilities and secure club storage are also available.

With five-star Millbrook Resort accommodation, restaurants, spa facilities and Arrowtown and Queenstown close by, it is easy to turn the golf into a complete New Zealand stay-and-play experience.

About The Area

Aoraki / Mount Cook sits at the heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps and represents the country’s most dramatic alpine landscape. While not a traditional golf hub itself, it forms part of an unforgettable South Island golf journey, pairing bucket-list scenery with nearby high-country layouts.

Although there is no full championship course directly beneath the mountain, golfers travelling through the Mackenzie Basin often combine the region with rounds at The Cairns Golf Course, located near Lake Tekapo. This striking alpine layout features rolling fairways, exposed rock formations and sweeping views across glacial lakes and mountain ranges. Further west, itineraries frequently incorporate Queenstown’s championship venues, including Jack's Point Golf Course, where dramatic alpine backdrops and firm-running fairways mirror the raw beauty of the Mount Cook region.

Golf in this part of the South Island is defined by scale — vast skies, crisp mountain air and firm turf during the summer months. The prime playing season runs from November to March, when temperatures are mild and daylight extends late into the evening.

Off the course, Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park offers glacier walks, alpine hiking trails and breathtaking viewpoints across New Zealand’s highest peak. Scenic flights and heli-hiking experiences provide unforgettable perspectives of the Tasman Glacier. The region’s clear night skies are also a highlight, offering exceptional stargazing opportunities.

For golfers building a South Island itinerary, Aoraki / Mount Cook adds extraordinary alpine scenery and adventure to complement championship golf in nearby Tekapo and Queenstown, creating one of the most visually spectacular golf journeys anywhere in the world.
