Nyali Golf & Country Club
Mombasa
Nyali Golf & Country Club is a very useful course to include in a Kenya golf holiday, especially for UK golfers spending time on the Mombasa coast. Set in the upmarket Nyali area, just north of Mombasa Island, the club offers an easy coastal round that pairs well with beach stays, safari extensions and nearby courses such as Vipingo Ridge.
The course is an 18-hole, par-71 layout measuring around 5,953 metres, with visitors welcomed throughout the week. Established in the 1950s and designed by Monty Lowry, Nyali has a traditional parkland feel, with Bermuda fairways, Polana greens, mature trees, flame trees, indigenous planting and the occasional velvet monkey adding to the setting.
For golfers, Nyali is not about huge elevation changes or intimidating length. The challenge comes from tree-lined fairways, coastal breezes from the Indian Ocean, well-placed bunkers and greens that reward tidy approach play. It is enjoyable for holiday golfers, but loose shots can quickly find trouble, especially when the wind picks up.
Nyali works particularly well as part of a wider Kenya golf itinerary. You can play a relaxed round in Mombasa, add championship golf at Vipingo Ridge, then combine the trip with beach time on the coast or a safari in Amboseli, Tsavo or the Maasai Mara. For a Kenya golf break with sunshine, coastal charm and easy access from Mombasa resorts, Nyali Golf & Country Club is a very appealing addition.

About The Area
Mombasa is Kenya’s historic coastal hub, offering golfers a vibrant mix of tropical scenery, Swahili culture and accessible, year-round golf. Set along the Indian Ocean, the city combines palm-lined fairways with warm sea breezes, creating a relaxed but engaging golf experience that pairs perfectly with beachside living.
The city’s standout venue is Nyali Golf & Country Club, one of the oldest and most established courses in Kenya. This classic parkland layout features tree-lined fairways, gently undulating terrain and well-maintained greens that reward consistent ball striking. The course is highly playable while still offering enough challenge through strategic bunkering and subtle doglegs. Nearby, Leisure Lodge Golf Club — just across the Likoni Ferry toward Diani Beach — provides a more expansive resort-style layout set among coconut palms and tropical vegetation, offering variety for golfers staying in the region.
Golf in Mombasa is defined by its tropical climate, with warm temperatures and coastal humidity throughout the year. The most comfortable playing conditions are typically between June and October, as well as January to March, when rainfall is lower.
Off the course, Mombasa offers a rich cultural experience. The historic Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflects the city’s Portuguese and Swahili heritage, while the Old Town features narrow streets, markets and traditional architecture. The coastline is lined with beautiful beaches, and snorkelling or diving in the Indian Ocean reveals vibrant coral reefs.
For golfers seeking tropical parkland courses, cultural depth and a lively coastal atmosphere, Mombasa delivers one of East Africa’s most accessible and enjoyable golf escapes.
