Riviera Golf
San Giovanni In Marignano
Riviera Golf is an 18-hole course in San Giovanni in Marignano, set within the countryside of Emilia-Romagna and close to the Adriatic resorts of Cattolica and Riccione. The course follows the natural landscape beside the River Conca, with views extending towards the Apennines, the Carpegna mountains and San Marino.
Originally opened in 2004, the course was later redesigned by Graham Cooke, building on work by Luigi Rota Caremoli. The current par-70 layout measures approximately 6,061 metres and combines long, American-inspired fairways with more technical holes, gentle elevation changes and sizeable water hazards.
The generous fairways make Riviera Golf approachable for a broad range of handicaps, but scoring well still depends on sensible positioning. Water features influence several holes, while bunkers, changing ground levels and carefully placed greens can punish golfers who simply attack with distance. Different teeing options help make the course enjoyable for beginners, experienced players, seniors and juniors.
Practice facilities include a driving range with covered stations and around 50 hitting positions, alongside a putting green and areas for pitching, chipping and bunker practice. There is also a nine-hole executive course, making the venue useful for tuition, warm-up sessions and golfers who prefer a shorter round. Club hire, buggy hire and a golf school are available.
The adjoining Riviera Golf Resort provides accommodation, dining, swimming and wellness facilities, while the beaches of the Adriatic coast are around ten minutes away by car. This makes Riviera Golf well suited to golfers who want to combine their rounds with Italian food, coastal towns and time by the sea.

About The Area
San Giovanni in Marignano is a lovely choice for golfers who want an Italy golf holiday with resort comfort, Adriatic coast access and a quieter village feel. Set in Emilia-Romagna, in the province of Rimini, it sits in the Conca Valley just a few miles from the beaches of Cattolica, with rolling hills and countryside around it. The town is also listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”, giving it more charm than a simple beach-and-golf base.
The main golfing highlight is Riviera Golf Resort, located in San Giovanni in Marignano near Cattolica, Riccione and Rimini. The resort offers an 18-hole par-70 course, driving range, 9-hole executive course, footgolf course and golf academy, making it a flexible option for different abilities and mixed groups. The course was designed by Luigi Rota Caremoli and Graham Cook, with fairways shaped around the natural terrain, giving golfers a varied and enjoyable round rather than a flat, repetitive resort layout.
Away from the fairways, San Giovanni in Marignano adds proper Italian holiday appeal. Its old centre has historic streets, ancient gateways, towers, markets and food traditions, while the surrounding area is known for wheat, wine and welcoming tables. The famous Festa delle Streghe brings music, street performers, local flavours and summer atmosphere to the village each year.
For UK golfers, San Giovanni in Marignano works beautifully as part of a tailor-made Italy golf holiday, combining golf, spa time, Romagna food, Adriatic beaches and easy trips to Rimini, Riccione and Cattolica.
